Welcome to the forum. For metal in an alder guitar the duncan distortion sounds great. You can cover 80's type metal to heavier thrash type stuff no problem. I would say that the cleans are just OK if that's a concern. The JB would be another option. Good cleans and more versitle than the DD. Covers classic rock, blues, metal etc. and cleans up well. Other duncan pickups for metal, that I would suggest would be the custom, dimebucker and the invader.

The Duncan Distortion i will keep that in mind. Scooter you said 80's metal ehehe but i will be using this pickup for modern metal which is in the syles of Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Machine Head, Chimaira.

Will it work?

Thanks!

FOr what you've described you can make the JB work, that is with the right effects and amp. personally I reccomend the Invader.
Rock On :smoker:

What I was saying its that the DD is a good pickup for all types of metal. It will definitely cover the styles of the bands that you listed. I should have mentioned the parallel axis distortion as well. It's similar to the DD but has quite a bit more output. If you want a bit more versitility and better cleans I'd do the JB. If cleans are not a high priority give the DD a try. By the way, what guitar is this going into?

Hey Scooter this is going into an Epiphone Flying V 1967

I would respectfully disagree with this. My DD, (in the neck), does great cleans. I was just jammin' along with BB all yesterday afternoon. :)

I think it may be dependent on the guitar, and whatever comes after the cord. ;)

JB all the way.

Eventually, every pup Duncan makes will be listed, you know. ;)

Hey Does anyone know hows the Dimarzio Steve Special? I know it's kind of the off the Duncan topic but i really need to ask this.

Is it good to have a pickup with scooped mids or raised or middled mids?

Cheers!

Ideally you want a pup that has a flat frequency response. Then you can EQ it to taste, instead of EQ'ing around the pup.

An Alder Body + a Duncan Invader can do nearly anything. Just be careful when attempting to do blues with it. It can do it, just not as well as a JB. But the Invader is definately a nice choice for metal. GO INVADER!

P.S

Check out those caps on the Invader :cool3:

If you play mostly rythm, the Invader will be a great choice, if you play more leads, go with the DD or custom. If you play mostly leads, go with the JB.

In that case, let me be the first to reccomend the Stag Mag or Jazz for an awesome metal tone. :laugh2:
