Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

Well turns out they didn't have the 5w combo anymore and I now have to wait 5 business days for the money to get refunded to my bank account... FML do yall think the rg80 would be a good choice or should I just get a pedal for my existing amp (Roland Cube 20gx) and be happy since I'm never playing above tv volume?

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

I answered in the other thread. Buy used from Guitar Center and get the extended warranty. That way you get a place that you can take it to rather than having to ship it somewhere.

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

And I told you I have a 25$ credit credit for musicians friend lol I'm not gonna buy used just for the fact that I've had a bad experience just recently with GC and I live 2 hours away from a GC. So in reality I'd lose more money dropping it off than I would sending it in under the 2 year accidental coverage warranty, they pay for shipping both ways. I have an old 86 chevy that gets about 7.5 mpg, it's not fun riding long distances lol I've been looking at that orange micro dark head but I can't afford both the head and the cab. I think I could get away with just getting the head and hooking it up to the speaker input on my 12" ibanez mimx65. Do yall think that would work?

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

I'm thinking Marshall or Blackstar

I played both a marshall vs100 and a mgfx and I liked the vs 100 but it was just a we bit too expensive locally, and the mgfx just sounded like poop. As for blackstar I didn't think they had enough gain. Which model BS were you thinking about?

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

I was looking at this Black Star Pedal.

I would tend to go with a Tube Amp Personally BUT I know Randall SS have some great tones as well as Marshall Valvestate...rare to find but the Gallien Krueger 250ml really punched some power for the tiny size.

I tried that pedal. Not enough gain to be called a "metal" pedal.

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

Yeah I didn't think the it had enough gain either. I finally decided, I went with the rd1c which isnt what you recommended but my rep talked me out of getting the rg80 just for the fact that I never play really loud. If I don't like it I'm going with the rg80 and the rep said I won't get charged extra. So that's a plus considering it would be 40$ extra for the rg :)

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

It's not going to have enough gain.

The volume knob on a solid state amp is linear. You can play at low volumes with lots of gain. It's hard to do that with a tube amp.

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

If that's the case I'll return it, but I already have good boost/OD models on my zoom. So I should be able to get a pretty heavy sound at lower volumes :) Of course the zoom would just be temporary until I can afford a real pedal. And if I don't like the randall sound at all I'll return it, and get a distortion pedal or a different brand amp altogether! (Depending on what's in stock)

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

Zoom makes some good stuff. What about running your current pedal through a better Roland Cube? I bet a 60 or even 80 could be had for small money. Run the Zoom into one of the clean settings and I bet you would like it.

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

I was actually thinking about getting the 40gx for that reason, but I thought I'd try out my original choice.

The Blackfire sure does on the Fury channel. They were a limited run so you would have to find a place that still stocks them. I would love a rackmount version of the HT-Blackfire pedal with a good clean channel.

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

Actually Im almost thinking I should've ordered the gx40 first... after all that's the model I fell in love with because of the double rec and dynamp models. But I'm sure they will still have it if I don't like this Randall :)

Re: Good metal pedal/amp?

The only problem with that cube line had was it didn't have a 3 prong wall plug. That resulted in a crazy amount of hum when using high gain at moderate volumes, even when using humbuckers. I know I could get a 3 prong cord put on it but I don't feel like spending an extra 50-100$ for it when it shouldve been made with one to begin with imo. If I was okay with the hum I would've bought the 80xl that my local pawn shop has, and actually they have 2 that have been on the shelf for about 9 months lol
