i was thinking of geting some good pickups for my cheep strat would there be any differenses worth the money and what would be the pros and cons

Higher output will cover up a poor quality wood. I will not buy any expensive guitar (check my signature). Put a JB or distortion in and rock away. Your amp is more important anyway. If it is not plywood it will sound fine. You can put a lot of different pups in and it will sound fine. I have tried a bunch in my cheaper guitars and none sounded bad. The jb was just what I had to have for my band's sound.

This worked for me too. I put a Distortion pup in my $150 Squire Strat and it souded awesome. I won't sell the thing 'cause it sounds so good. And you may be able to pick up a Distortion or Invader for cheep in the Trading post.

Most of my Strats are MIJ Squire Strats from the 80's. Putting good pickups in a cheap guitar will usually make the guitar sound like a totally professional instrument and, IMO, it's well worth doing. Lew

Assuming of course the guitar itself is worth anything as a player and tone producer.... those 80s MIJ Squires were low end, but they kick some major ass and are really well built, better than many of the USA Fenders of the time ;)

On the other hand, if your guitar is a piece of plywood with strings, it may be worth considering a trade in + cash for a better guitar as a good foundation for mods before actually doing any :)

Yeah that's right. I wasn't thinking quite THAT cheap!:laugh2:

I just bought a MIM strat and changed the pups to Fender fat 50's and it made a huge improvement.

My MIM has Fender Lace. These were a $300 upgrade that someone else did and they sound sweet. I'm actually an LP man but dabble in the strat sound and these are clean sounding and distort nicely.

I am a believer in upgrades!

Good glassy, vintage strat tone. I do prefer the SSL-1's................. I got the fat 50's brand new for a steal & couldn't pass them up.
