Don't rule out Dan Electro for under $300. Very light and a great platform for mods.

My Frankenstrat weighs in at 6.5 lbs. Alder body, maple neck and board. There's so many weight variations within the same species. If you want light right off the wall, look at Epi SG's. Maybe not under all $300 but in the ballpark. The SG Pro is a nice looking guitar.
