Good Reverb pedal?

Whats a good reverb pedal? My amp doesn't have reverb and I like having it as a part of my sound. I also don't know if I should go with digital or analog for it. Also, where would I put it? Should I put it in between the guitar and the amp or in the effects loop?

Re: Good Reverb pedal?

I think analog reverbs might be tricky to find. The big ol' Fender spring tank might be what you're after in that case, but those are large as amp heads and costs like one too. :)
Check out the EHX Holy grail and TC Hall of fame. 2 great reverb pedals.
It should go in the loop if you're using amp overdrive. If you're running your amp clean, with dirt (if any) from pedals, sticking the reverb in between dirt pedals and your amp (usually last in the signal chain) is enough tho.

Re: Good Reverb pedal?

I've got the Holy Grail in the loop of my amp (Orange TH30) and I really like it for my rock band. It's just decent for my surf outfit. It can go from subtle to airy to slightly drippy. Sounded like poo in front of the amp though. Loop all the way.

What sort of sound are you going for? That's important to know before dropping $ on one, since there are so many out there.

Re: Good Reverb pedal?

Not saying this is the last word as to "the Best Guitar Reverb Pedal", but the Line 6 Verbzilla (which I use) and the EH Holy Grail topped the list in this list of the best reverb pedals: http://www.bestcovery.com/best-guitar-digital-delay-pedal

Both are really good reverb pedals, and like I said, I use the Verbzilla. There's one sitting right on top of my old Fender amp in my profile picture.

In terms of the best analog delay, they picked the EH Memory Man, and that's also what I use.

I love my Hall of Fame, but I'm a relative n00b when it comes to reverb pedals. But it does sound great. Assuming you don't want to use it with any gain (where I think reverb sounds terrible), you could put it in front or in the loop. Sounds fine either way.

Re: Good Reverb pedal?

Boss RV-5.
I like it even better when a Boss DD-3 delay is added to the RV-5 for 'slapback'.

Re: Good Reverb pedal?

My favorite, hands down, is still the Fender Reverb. You should put it in the effects loop for the cleanest results IME. However, they sound fine up front as well. That's where they were designed to be placed.

Re: Good Reverb pedal?

What's your budget? I'd perhaps go for the HoF. If money is not an issue, I can definitely recommend the Neunaber Wet. I've been through the Verbzilla, Strymon BlueSky, Eventide Space as well.

Yup, the verbzilla is good but, I like more the TC Electronics Hall of Fame. Not expensive and very good one.
Memory Man takes a lot of place in pedal board. I don't recall if it needs or not special adaptor (as the Electric Lady).
Hall of Fame covers lots of Reverb modes and it's pedalboard friendly.

Meaning what? That Velcro sticks to it? :)

(Unlike my Verbzilla. Can't get the Velcro to stick to it no matter what I do! :banghead: )

Love my TC Chorus, so it's not hard to believe their reverb pedal would be really nice too.

Not a fan of the holy grail, but I liked the verbzilla a lot when I tried it. The boss rv-5 has a really cool modulated verb, and I've heard good things about the hall of fame but haven't had a chance to demo it. If I could afford it, I'd totally go for a strymon blue sky -- that thing sounds so good it's almost like cheating :p

Re: Good Reverb pedal?

Sold my Boss RV-5 when I got my Verbzilla. Actually, I gave it away! Never loved it. Just never sounded very "organic" to me.

The Verbzilla, on the other hand, does a really nice approximation of Fender spring reverb. Still a bit more digital in tone than I'd like but it's the best (for me!) that I've found.

When you wanted just an specific and single reverb effect, there are more brands/models that came to mind:
check Maleko stuff, as well as Wampler reverb!.

I was more focused on size but, yes, you are damn right: verbzilla velcro is a pain, as some other not-plain bottom plate pedals.
:argh:

Re: Good Reverb pedal?

I really like my Hermida Audio Reverb... They designed it incorporate both analog and digital signals, and it sounds wonderful!

I have the RV5 and the DD2 delay. Generally I use just one or the other, it's too easy to go overboard :D

But if the OP is looking for the "surf" sound and doesn't have the cash for the Fender tube/spring unit, I'd suggest a Holy Grail.
