It's an old Harmony that belonged to my late grandfather. It had been smashed, and he put it back together. Looks like he shellac'd the top, anchored the bridge to the braces with wood screws, and spray painted the back and sides a green-gold color after he glued it back together. He even cut his name out of a credit card and put it inside as the label :laughing:
I'm not all that superstitious about mojo, but a smashed and rebuilt Harmony that you can see daylight through the back of, which belonged to your now-dead grandfather...that's gotta move the mojo needle a bit.

I love it too. The fretboard isn't lacquered; those lines are where it was...sanded(?), possibly with a rasp. Very coarse.
It's detuned probably 4 half-steps, or thereabouts out of necessity --- to prevent bridge rising or neck bowing. The strings that are on it have been on it for a long time. They feel terrible, but they sound right.
It's not a "player," but I bet you can imagine what it sounds like. I'll record an iphone clip tonight in case some of ye don't know what an old ass guitar sounds like. It's a unique sound, but very distinct. Every old ass guitar I've ever played sounds the same - like an old ass guitar.

Take a look at the Carbon Acoustics Cargo or the Blackbird Rider. They're expensive but are well suited to outdoor use and moderate abuse. I haven't played the Rider but I have played the Cargo. It's an impressive little guitar.

Yes i have.
IMHO, they are GREAT value for money.
It is an over used phrase - but i honestly feel they are just that !
I always knew about the brand, but always saw them as CHEAP guitars.
After all, i want a MARTIN HD 28 V.
That was then.
NOW, i really like them - a LOT.
A female singer/song writer is semi-sponcered by our local guitar store, and they told her to chooce any two Tanglewood acoustics.
Only after that i messed around with her 'budget' albeit 'free' guitars.
BLOODY HELL . . . they are rocking for the street price !

Late to the party but I own a Martin LX1 (right). Solid top, morado bridge/fingerboard, hpl neck, back and sides.
It's pretty good - quite loud and midrangey, and has benefited from being played in. Sounded best out of the Yamahas and Taylors I played when I was shopping for it. Very neatly built too.
