Good Strat w/floyd

Hey guys!

I'm lookin for a shred guitar with a traditional look. My Parker just ain't flying at some gigs. I'm thinking a strat with a floyd is the way to go. I'm looking for suggestions, ideas, whatever. Doesn't have to be a Fender, but the more it looks like a strat or other classic guitar the better...

Build a Warmoth strat with a Floyd Original. The original Floyd is the best out there and get a Warmoth neck and body made the way you like, add the electronics you like and you will be one happy picker! Too many bad Floyd copies out there....

Fender used to have the american special strat FR HSS(befora that it was called classic FR)..........with the original floyd but i think they discontinued it. They keep coming up on ebay and they are selling for a fair price.

Check out the Mexico Richie Sambora Strat. I don't care for Floyd's any more, but this axe rocks pretty good. You can always put a hotter pickup in as well. They are not very expensive either.

Thanks guys.....any other ideas?

One other caveat: I definitely want a floyd with recessed routing. I've noticed some of the Fender models don't route under the bridge. If I'm gonna have a floyd on a guitar I'm definitely gonna need to be able to yank up on it without smakin' the body!

I was never a fan of the Floyd on that Mex Sambora Strat. It has the thick soft white metal base plate that strips when you clamp a saddle down too hard... Some people like them for the softer less bright tone but when it counts i'd go for a stronger trem...

I have an old 89 Fernandes that has a head Crasher trem on it. Those HC trems are like tanks and the metal base plate is so hard i couldn't drill a hole into it for a different style of trem arm!!!! One of my favourite floyd copy style locking trems! Too bad the guitar it is on sucks.......

I like cheaper Jacksons... Their Floyds are cheap ass like the other guitars in the same price range. The important step is to spend the $12usa at www.stewmac.com and get their Floyd replacement posts. The reason most of the lowpro cheaper floyds go out of tune is because of the horrible posts that move around.... The hardened ones from stewmac are much much better!

But if it was me i'd still get a custom made Warmoth strat with a Real Floyd if money was not a problem....

PS www.godinguitars.com has just released the new Freeway Classic with a Floyd........ Looks like the same LowPro Floyd copy on most Ibanez,Yamaha, and Jacksons in the under $800 range

Used Jackson USA Soloist or Dinky, if you can live with a pointyhead. Or a PC-1 if you can´t ;)

Unfortunately I'm trying to avoid the shredder stigma that comes along with Jackson, Ibanez, etc. As you can probably tell from my sig I'm a big Ibanez fan. If they made something remotely traditional looking with a floyd, I'd go with that. It might seem weird, but I play for a living and I often run into situations where I get judged before I even play a note, so looks count. I've gotten tons of crap for my Parker and my old Ibanez RG(no longer with me). I've got too many axes in the stable as it is, so I want something that can handle all the tremelo stuff, but doesn't instantly associate me with RATT. :)

The Warmoth route seems like a good one, though after adding it all up it gets rather expensive. Couple this with the poor resale value of Warmoth stuff, and it makes me look to other options. I've seen some old Japanese strats on eBay with a floyd, so that might be good. I wish G&L put a floyd on one of thier more stratty looking guitars. The Invader looks nice, but it is quite remeniscent of RGs. That may be my best bet, though.

How much you lookin' to spend?

I have a beautiful MIA Fender Strat that came stock with two humbuckers and an OFR, got it off ebay for $675. I've also been looking into G&L Invaders recently.

I'm not totally sure what my range is. I suppose it depends on what I'm getting. $600 or so is probably the top of what I'd like to spend. I'd pay more for a G&L or something of that caliber.

Does yours have the floyd recessed? I don't get the non-recessed floyd... :)

I prefer recessed but this one is non-recessed and it works just fine for me. There's some minor scrapes on the finish under the bridge from pull-ups and I can't pull up a whole lot but The recessed thing is mainly a feel issue for me. The recessed ones tend to feel more focused and have more even action. Non-recessed works just fine though. I've gotten to the point where I can work well with either.

Yeah, I really prefer the recessed ones. In fact, I didn't even realize they were ever non-recessed until I played some of MusicMan's guitars at NAMM. I was shock to find I couldn't yank up on the Steve Morse model. WTF?!??!?! :)
