Oh, I LIKE 'em, they just don't quite fit my needs. I LIKE just about any guitar. I think thats how I ended up with the life I have, for better or worse. :D

I just posted that guitar as a joke; I knew it would be too 'ourtrageous' for you! :D

You people remember what a joke is, right?!

Add ESP to the list of POS guitars

How many Japanese ESPs (NOT LTDung) have you played? I hate ESP with a passion, but talking about Japanese-Made ESPs that statement is simply slander. Their workmanship, selection of materials, and Quality Cointrol are just as good as Jackson/Charvel, i.e light Years ahead of Gibson, and still miles ahead of Fender Or IbeenHad... ;)

Re: Good Strat w/floyd

Hey Jeff H i love that Iron Maiden strat on EBAY you posted! I wanted one of those guitars when i saw them a few years ago... Wish i had grabbed one as they were about $1000 Canadian and now there is no such thing as getting a Strat with a Real Folyd and 3 Duncan humbuckers for under $1000... Also i really like Iron Maiden.... Strangely i never liked them back in the 80's when they were a big act.... Now i love all their old albums..

Re: Good Strat w/floyd

Doesn't Fender own everything now anyways? I'm waiting for "Fender Purchases Gibson, Marshall, and Sony."

Re: Good Strat w/floyd

To all who took interest about my personal guitar: It's a Fender '92 Floyd Rose Classic Strat, MIA. It came stock with two humbuckers and the OFR. I think they were discontinued around 2000 or so which was a shame because they're really fabulous guitars. Basically an HH American standard but the neck is a little different... it seemed to have a flatter back and a different finish than the standards of the period. As you can see it's what I'd call a "satin tint" to it. I've also seen HSS versions. You can find them on ebay from time to time... The serial number will start with "FN" for the FR classic series.

It's far and away one of the best guitars I've ever played, bar none. I paid $675 (HSC included) for it off eBay three years ago.

Re: Good Strat w/floyd

Thanks! That may be my best bet. I've seen a couple of Japanese ones from that period. Any idea what the quality of those is like? Generally speaking I find Japanese guitars to be very well made, but I'm not sure if this extends to Fender's operations there....

Re: Good Strat w/floyd

I think once i get my Warmoth Strat with a Floyd i'll use an Alder body but have a Mahogany neck..... I have had great results with a maple body and a Mahogany neck before...... So i'll try Alder bodies next..... The Mahogany neck fattens up the tone greatly and the alder or maple body helps hold the Floyd in solid!!!!!

They were not discontinued in 2000.....they changed the name of the model to american strat special FR.The only difference is that they came with Fender DH-1 Humb pickup instead of the dimarzio. It was offered in HH and HSS configuration but around 2002 i think(?????????????) they only made the HSS one. Around July 2004 they stopped making them completely. The "new ones" came with the serial number starting with DZ i think.

A guy I used to play with had an 80's MIJ with a Schaller-Floyd but he never used the floyd and the bridge (and the pickups) looked like they were made entirely out of compressed rust. :blackeye: I suppose you COULD get an MIJ like that and then refit it with OFR hardware.

Oh wow I didn't know they made them up until then... I don't recall seeing it listed on the Fender site ever. :smack: I thought they just kept the pickups config but moved to that interesting looking Fender/FR collaboration bridge.

The one's I was looking at were made in the late 80s/early 90s and appear to have a OFR. They also have a shaped heal, which is cool.

I wish Fender hadn't stopped recessing the floyd. I've seen a bunch of Strats that would need to be routed, which is just a waste of time/money imo.

What do you guys think about shaller or kahler bridges?

Mike
