Gordon Smith?

What do you guys think of his guitars? I've seen some on Ebay, they look like a decent alternative to Gibbys. It is getting harder and harder these days to tell if a guitar is truly "handmade" as they claim.

im watching that ebay auction too... you thinkin about goin for it BigBlack?

Re: Gordon Smith?

His stock humbuckers are kinda bright. But I guess that'd be going anyway lol.. I love the neck one, but swapped the bridge pup out for an A2JB

He puts the treble bleed (the mod where when you roll down the volume you keep the treble) and a no load tone pot on all his guitars, and they all have brass nuts I think. That's about as much as I can think of atm.

I find them really playable, I seem to get on with the feel of his necks. They aren't really lookers for the most part but it'll be a solid guitar I can bet that.. I've talked to John (Smith) on several occasions and his outlook on guitars is basically that they're built to be played. Over here they're good value, second hand as well. In the US though I'd imagine for the price of shipping+customs you'd get an equal if not better axe buying in the country. But if it's s/h on ebay US and a decent price it'd be worth a look

Re: Gordon Smith?

I can vouch for the integrity of the company. They've got a really good reputation over here in the U.K. When I was looking to buy a LP type guitar I spoke to John Smith quite a lot through e-mails and he was always very helpful and gracious. I didn't go for one in the end because, to be honest I didn't think they were worth the new prices.

I think the newer guitars are a lot better. Some of the older ones are really iratic. (Bit like Gibson, I suppose!) I'd check how old it is first. Especially if you're buying form Ebay.
