gorgeous Classic Custom

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

Couldn't they just lie to me and dye the fretboard?

I think the collective internet has gone ahead and declared WE DON'T CARE WHAT IT'S MADE OF AS MUCH AS WE WANT IT TO LOOK LIKE WE'RE USED TO IT LOOKING LIKE THANK YOU

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

Meh... it's ok but doesn't really do anything for me. I saw one of those baked maple boards the weekend and I have to say they look so crap it's unbelievable! The rosewood used on Epi's, Squires and the like looks far superior. I will always look for used now there are restrictions on some of the woods used in guitar manufacture.

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

Has Gibson Started using Asian-made hardware and plastic parts? The hardware, knobs, switch, and switch washer on my '12 SG Special Faded are really cheesy, and they look like it in the pix of this LP as well. Also, notice the shapes of the speed knobs. The sides are not perpendicular to the tops; they are at a slight angle, like many Asian-made speed knobs.

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

neat - I'd prefer an off/aged white binding as opposed to stark white, but is what it is.

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

I will add that I think if they just left the board as just plain maple the guitars would look far better.... certainly more appealing to me anyway.

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

I was thinking long and hard about buying one of those when I was in Nashville a couple months ago. There was a used one that was mint for $1,600. The one I played was a great guitar! Way better than any of the other new models I have played. One of my friends just bought one of these last week, and he loves it.

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

You can actually die Maple to look as dark as Ebony, however personally I am a fan of maple boards so I REALLY wouldn't mind, I'd even go as far as saying I'd prefer it.

That is, if I were interested in LPs :9:

Nice looking example though :)

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

WTF.

Why not make the whole thing from plastic then?

And people look down on Burny LP Customs because they use rosewood instead of Ebony. One layer of rosewood, no lamination mind you.

In 10 years we will look back at this period as the time when Gibson really jumped the shark. We wouldn't accept these changes from other manufacturers, and I think musicians will very quickly realize that there is no good reason to overlook it just because it's Gibson.

im pretty sure my Burny fretboard is ebony.. (?)

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

Yet what I don get is the Epiphone Zakk Wylde model has been upgraded From a rosewood to an ebony fret board... With emgs ....

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

That's a nice looking custom, and that maple fretboard looks pretty dark. Why can't they do that for all their baked maple fretboards? Laziness, or fear of internet retribution? ("Gib not only stopped using rosewood, BUT NOW they're using something else and making it look like rosewood!")

Oh some do, but I have one Burny and one Greco LPC each that are rosewood.

And people make a fuzz about it.

Right after they make a fuzz about liking LP Customs but preferring rosewood boards :bling:

Re: gorgeous Classic Custom

Classic custom has the baked maple fretboard. Therefore it costs less than $2k

It also does not have the bound back like the Custom. I wonder if the bound back and ebony really add THAT much to the price. I think some of the Customs still come with the 490/498 set rather than the 57 classics.

Either way, I like these classic customs. I quite like the natural finished one.
