Ok guys, in the two stores in my town I only go to one for many reasons (exept for picks) ou know, they know me weel, better pricing etc. Well the other one has an amp tech so for some reason I assumed they would be the oens with the preamp tube, all they had was a :

-Marshall ECC83

Now I know Marshall isnt the best for tubes and whatnot but they only had one and it was across town and all I had was my two legs and I wasnt coming back up so SOLD. I went down to the other one...

They had a bunch of course, SSovtek WB was one I rememebr but I remember hearing EH makes some pretty good tubes so I got:

-ELECTRO HARMONIX 12ax7

No 12ax7 and ecc83 are the same right? And which one do you reccomend I put in my AVT150h and which one do you reccomend I keep for spare?? thansk alot!

EDIT: is there certai nthings on the tube I shouldnt touch?

So people may say touching the tube is bad because tubes get hot and oil from your skin can cause problems. 12ax7 and ecc83 are the two different names for the same tube. I'd definitely recommend using the harmonix tube over the marshall tube. Marshall tubes are generally okay to bad.

Electro Harmonix!

If you want a more balanced sound, get the high gain 12ax7 by JJ tubes.

+1

Wipe the tube well (but gently) with a tissue so as not to get skin oil on it. The theory being that oil on the surface makes the temperature irregular which can cause it to crack over time. It shouldn't be too much of a problem but being cautious may save you a tube and walk.

I believe that the british used ecc83 while 12ax7 was the american name. 7025s used to be a rugged version, but today, the brand names mean more than the different names for the same tube.

Yeha I thought it was a american/british namign thing.

Yeah I'm goign to put the EH in today and see how she goes, thanks guys!

Didn't know that thing about skin oil and tube cracking. I have incredibly oily skin and I deposit oil everywhere I go. My tubes have been smeared with my oil for quite a while now. I'll be thinking about this until I can get to my amp and wipe it down now...

Hey guys, I put it in! I put in the EH one first, then the MArshall one, I didn't see much of a difference so the MArshall one is in there for now because I got band pratice soon so I igured I'd put it back together and such. It helped the buzzyness for sure, theres still a bit mroe then I'd like but still alot better. I mean I expect some anyways because the AVT is known to be fairly buzzy, add my pretty mid-treb bossted EQ and the g12t speakers and your bound for some. Actually at first I didnt notice like any difference and was a little dissapointed, but after about a min it cleared u pto its state now, possible the tube doing a little break in?

Overall: Helped the buzzyness for sure and helped out in the harmonics department! Maybe not as much as I expected but still an improvement and I am happier I may throw the EH one back in, ill see how she goes/sounds today!
