Got a Bare Knuckle, comparison clips!

After a long hard consideration I decided to bite the bullet and ordered my very first Bare Knuckle Pickups humbucker. I had read a lot about them and wanted to try them as in Finland they're really not that much more expensive than regular name brands. The guitar that most needed an upgrade was my Jackson DK2. It's my go to death metal guitar so I decided to pick the humbucker that "peels the paint off the walls" - the ceramic Warpig. The pickup that was in earlier on was a JB.

To really make a good comparison I decided to record both pickups in the same guitar without any other changes in any equipment.

Equipment used:

-Jackson DK2, superstrat shape, poplar body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, licensed Floyd Rose bridge

-Damage Control Demonizer preamp, direct out to Mackie Onyx Satellite, originally set up for the JB

-DR 13-56 strings tuned to B, fresh set, same strings for both pickups, bless the FR bridge!

-Dunlop Tortex 2mm plectrum

-Crappy hands and bad timing


It's too early to say anything definitive about the Warpig. I expected more output but it looks like I got more clarity. It really splits well, much much better than the JB.

Tell me what you think! Which one do you like better?

I preferred "clip 1", which I´m fairly certain is the Warpig

Clip 1(the second in the posting) sounded like a warpig to me, too. It sounded a little more raw and like it had a "little more"....

So you are using an all SS set-up? Please say yes, cause I didn't care for either clip...

^^ The Damage Control Demonizer he listed under "equipment" is a Tube preamp.

Just goes to prove that tube snobbery is BS, you can get a crappy tone or a good tone with both. But either way, tone is subjective, and "how do you guys like my guitar tone" was not really the question

So you are using an all SS set-up? Please say yes, cause I didn't care for either clip...

My main amp is a NMV all-tube amp, the THD Univalve. I use the Demonizer for easy recording. I think that it sounds pretty good as well.

I liked clip 2 better. I don't think either pickup did death metal particularly well, maybe it was your other gear I don't know.

EDIT: the clips were tuned to B? Sounded like standard, I thought that was why they sounded kinda thin!

Clip 2 has a very little more definition, but not enough (for me) to warrant the $$$$.

Clip 2 is the Warpig, Clip 1 the JB.

I really like the Warpig. It's hard to describe but it has a kind of breathing, musical sound to it. It isn't really all that powerful as I expected from the description and the specs - I think I turn the amp louder with this one than with my other guitars. Its clarity and dynamics are great, and it's nice to have a useful split coil sound. The sound is big and balanced and it reacts well to my playing, it growls and purrs just as I tell it to. I'm sold.

I didn't find those clips very funny at all.

I actually liked the second clip (warpig) better. It seemed to have more presence to it.

Am I the only who liked the "give" of the JB a bit more? On the faster, chunkier parts I guess it did mush out a bit but still...

Most BK aren't that hot really. I think it comes partly from the scatterwinding. They're more about clarity and tone.

None of them will match lets say an Invader in sheer output. I have a Miracle Man and it's not much louder than a JB really, but the tone is more crushing.
