Got a Boss NS-2 today and I have a question...

Went to guitar center after work today and was checking the NS-2 out. I've been wanting a noise gate ever since I got my 5150. Well today I think I got another deal, check this out. The NS-2 was going for $100 and I got it for $90, got the adapter (going for $20) for $15 and a Boss pedal case that holds three pedals (going for $30) for $20. The guy had three of these pedal cases that someone traded-in and they are in MINT condition. All of that and a performance garentee(sp?), which if you think about it was partically FREE with all the discounts.

Ok, now here is my question....I got home and wanted to hook it up through the effects loop. I've never used an effects loop before but I thought you just run the send from the NS-2 into the return of the amp and then the send of the amp into the return of the NS-2? Well that didn't work, so now I'm a bit stuck. What am I doing wrong and more importantly, did I do anything to damage my amp? :smack:

The NS2 has its own specially contained loop so that you can isolate certain effects (like a noisy vintage effect pedal) in their own loop and then add other stuff before or after it to preserve tone... if you're just using the NS2 by itself in your FX loop just use the regular input and output, and don't plug anything into the NS2's own self-contained loop. Also just make sure your power supply and/or batts are working and you've set the controls right so that it won't mute (there is a mute function setting on the ns2!) or choke off your sound. and if the amp has an "effects send level" be sure to turn it all the way up.

Hope that helps. Oh yeah and I don't think there's any way you could have damaged the amp.

amp send -> NS2 Main input--controls--NS2 main output ->amp return.

From what I've read any attenuator will alter your tone somewhat...not sure how true this is. With my HotPlate I set it to the -16db with the Bright and Deep switches both on. Without these on your tone changes significantly, but I've found that with them on its pretty darn close. The manual that comes with the HotPlate even recommends that you have the bright and deep switched on when attenuating to lower db's.
