Got a box from China yesterday...

Yes, I know outsourcing is bad. I haven't found anyone in the USA making these (just selling these same Chinese ones for $100 a piece), and the ones Jackson was using on the DK2Ms are made in Japan and are $150+ each for used ones. These were a little under $50 each *shipped*. Got 6 of them so I should be set for a few projects here.

Re: Got a box from China yesterday...

Damn if that wasn´t a 24 fret I´d order one for my Jackson.

How´s the neck profile? I´ve gotten a bit frustrated with the flat, thin neck of JS Series. A little beefier neck would be perfect.

Re: Got a box from China yesterday...

Do they fit Jackson bodies? Looks like the heel isn't shaped yet.

Re: Got a box from China yesterday...

Also, check how they are for grain orientation... I bought one form CHina that - fretboard facing upward - the grain was *nearly* flatsawn, except for the definite upward trend towards the sides. May be fine - we'll see.

It's a little thicker than an Affinity Telecaster neck, so it feels fine to me. It's not like the baseball bat necks I've preferred in the past but it'll work. Dragonfire Guitars sells these in 24 and 22 fret variations. (Theirs have binding too. Doesn't matter to me either way, but that's closer to the DK2M spec.)

I stuck it on a Rhoads (that originally came with a 24 fret neck) and it seems to fit perfectly. I resized the picture so it does make the heel look a little funny.

Re: Got a box from China yesterday...

I bought one of those for my Texas Rebel Guitar. I think it was 89.00 shipped from a US seller. The neck profile is comfy and chunkier than my Jackson, although the frets are smaller than the true jumbos on a Jackson neck. Also, the heel was pre -shaped . It will require leveling of course. I did a satin finish. It plays real good, although its no Jackson in terms of feel and playability, thats for sure ( BTW, the DK2M Maple necks sell used for 200.00 in most cases WHEN you can find them, and the neck I bought has gone up 10 bucks since I bought it)

Looks like a decent chunk of wood. Looking forward to see what it is set upon.

Re: Got a box from China yesterday...

I had really bad luck going that route. Poorly done frets, improper scale lengths, and weird anomalies in the neck when the truss rod is adjusted. You get what you pay for sometimes....

Got a source on those? :p

I want to get one or two of these in use before I let people know where to get them. If there are problems I don't want other people to experience them. ;)

Nice. I've got two Rhoads bodies here and might do a Warrior eventually. Yeah, I saw a beat up DK2M neck go for $150 but they do go for $180 in better shape. Haven't priced one lately, but I can't see spending more on a neck than I would on entire guitars. ;)

Too bad it has those stupid black painted on shark fins.

I actually wish they were painted on, I would just sand them off. :) Looking closely, they are some kind of plastic, there's a glue line around them and tapping them with a fingernail sounds much different than the surrounding wood. I would have preferred that there were no inlays, and that the headstock was a paddle so I could shape it myself. I've got some Jackson bodies, but the Warlock body may look a little odd with a "Jackson" neck. :D

Closer pictures, please.

Once I get it finished and on a guitar I'll do that.

Fret ends feel fine on this one, and holding it up to another Jackson neck the frets are all in the correct spots. I'll report back on the truss rod once I get it finished and installed. May be a while, got quite a few things going on right now.

Re: Got a box from China yesterday...

Sounds like they only glued around the edges on the inlays, it shouldn't sound different when you tap it. That's one knock.

That said, pretty much any used DK2M neck you run across is gonna need fret work too, so frets schmetz.

Just tried it on a few different necks with inlays, same thing. It's not a hollow sound, I'm talking about the sound it makes with a fingernail hitting it. It's a tad sharper than the thunk of a fingernail hitting the actual wood.
