Got a new amp: Peavey Windsor halfstack

I bought a Peavey Windsor halfstack last night and this thing rocks! For those who dont know, its got 3 12ax7s and 4 el34s. This amp comes close to plexi and jcm800 sounds depending on how you tweak it. Its loaded with versatility and is very responsive to all of the controls. The resonance and presence controls are very sweet, as is the texture control (goes from class A to class AB and anywhere in between). It is a single channel amp and can get decent marshallesque cleans but no fender type cleans. Overdrive is what this amp is all about. I had heard people say that it doesnt have a lot of gain...they are WRONG. Enough gain can easily be provided, though its no metal amp (which is a good thing :D ) Once I spend more time with it I will give a more thorough review.

I was pleasantly surprised when I checked one of those out. It sounds really good loud. I like it more than most Peaveys. I forget what the button is, but it sounds better in one position, than the other. If you ever do any upgrades, I wouldn't mess too much with tubes, but I'd definitely want to hear the amp with Vintage 30's.

One forum member who also uses that as his main amp now is Wattage, so you might want to talk to him about it.

I am jealous PTS!! :)

But really, enjoy the amp. I have liked the clips I have heard.

So, how are you liking it now you've spent more time?? I played one at GC and thought it was alot of fun.. Just begged me to pick up a Gibson SG and put on a uniform...

Ohhhhhh very cool. I am in need of a stack. Gotta take a look at one of these. Congrats on the purchase.

Re: Got a new amp: Peavey Windsor halfstack

Hey guys sorry I havent been on here in a while, I had some family issues to attend to.

Gearjoneser: The button is a boost button. It seems to only boost the volume and it sounds punchier with it engaged. Personally I dont use it.

Bloodrose: The more time I spend with it, the more I like it. The picking dynamics are extraordinary, there is not too much gain, and it can clean up decently well. It responds very well to all control tweaks and it seems to be more and more versatile everytime i plug into it.

YJM_Rocks: Go play one! As with any amp purchase, find one to test out first. This is no super high gain metal amp, it has about the drive of a late 80s JCM800.

Re: Got a new amp: Peavey Windsor halfstack

Played one at a local shop and thought it rocked...can't wait til they're comin up used on ebay all day like every other peavey amp.

I'm thinkin a Windsor and some v30's next to my Bassman halfstack would be the biggest and baddest wall of sound my particular part of Salt Lake City has ever encountered....

Re: Got a new amp: Peavey Windsor halfstack

I would say gainwise fairly close to a JCM800 2210 but that's going strictly from memory.

I have no need to change anything on mine, I love the cab too now that is is fairly broken well in. I wouldn't mind getting the footswitch to run the boost for solos but no biggie. Sooner or later I'll get some clips together.

Push to Shuv good luck with yours and remember to register it online to get the additional 3 years on the warranty.
