got a new guitar, but what's the bridge's origin?!

I kindly borrowed the pic from the interwebz cause I'm too lazy to upload a pic to photobucket.

anyone have ANY idea what kind of floyd system this is? Who made it? A unique feature is the height adjusting saddle and the spring in the hole for the trem arm (with a screw on collar) and the huge brass block.

... looks like a bog standard early Floyd Rose to me.

Pretty sure the part of the saddle underneath the hex screw at the front of the plate is supposed to be flat to the plate, but I could be wrong.

Huge brass block may be an aftermarket add on.

Re: got a new guitar, but what's the bridge's origin?!

It's a licensed copy, just like it says on the plate. Not sure who made it, could be Ping or any other of the Asian manufacturers. The front of that saddle is supposed to sit flat to the baseplate, not up like that.

Re: got a new guitar, but what's the bridge's origin?!

The spring should help the arm stay tight while in the trem. For some reason, I was thinking they slapped those f-1(??) Locking systems on them.

There's all kinds of wrong **** going on with that bridge.

no not really. that's because this saddle is height adjustable. can you see the 2 little hex bolts in the front?

FYI: I have a SIMILAR bridge. not THAT one.

Looks just like one I had on a Samick "Valley Arts" guitar. Saw one in a pawn shop just yesterday that I'm almost positive had the same bridge. Both had brass blocks, too.

I see them now. I haven't seen one like that before. That angle looks all wrong though to me.

Not sure of the spring in the trem arm hole is stock or not. With a collar, unless you feel the spring when initially screwing it down, it could help with keeping the collar from loosening too much. That's the one thing that bothers me with that type of trem arm assembly.

don't all the licensed ones pretty much blow anyway? except for many of the ibanez edges that is.

Not these days. Gotoh makes a licensed copy but it's one of the best ones out there. Same with the Schaller (though it is the same as a FR in design, still in a sense, a licensed copy).

Re: got a new guitar, but what's the bridge's origin?!

Not ever. Schaller made in licence great copies as well did kahler and takeuichi...

Re: got a new guitar, but what's the bridge's origin?!

Don't forget Schaller made the OFR for decades. Gotoh made the Ibanez Edge, then came up with their own breed, the 1996T.

Re: got a new guitar, but what's the bridge's origin?!

exactly. and the Ping-OFR's aren't that bad either. the 1996T fits a regular OFR rout, by the way. epic great trem, if I may say so.

Re: got a new guitar, but what's the bridge's origin?!

Looks like the Takeuchi-made units with height adjustable saddles (a great idea done in a really crappy way, for reasons the photograph makes obvious ) that Allparts used to sell in the early to mid 90s.....

Only ever held one in my hands once, actually beacause the bent saddles (a direct result of height adjustment when locked down) were causing problems. Replaced them with a set of standard Takeuchi saddles off a TRS-101 and Afaik teh customer is still happy today....

The brass block is likely aftermarket, IIRC they came with thin cast zinc blocks.
