I have always wanted a really nice Brazilian Rosewood OM or Dreadnaught guitar. But try to find a good one for less than $4000 these days. I licked into this one on Ebay. It's a '96 Taylor 710 Brazilian Presentation model. Taylor made just a few of them and sent one, and only one, to just a few dealers.

This one has an Engleman Spruce top and real Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. Gold plated Grover tuners too.

Just received it and it's a spectacular guitar. Still picking up all the styrofoam popcorn off of the floor!

I have to thank Matt from Martin6stringcustoms for buying one of my Marshall JCM 800's so I could afford it! :lmao: Thanks Matt!

I'm disappointed. That looks NOTHING like an Ibanez Jem. ;)

The Jem started at $500 but ended at $1500! I lost interest around $800...

Thanks! I've been selling off some of my amps and electric guitars to get my acoustic collection together.

Truth is, for the last twenty five years or so I've been playing and performing a lot more often on acoustic guitar than electric.

Most folks around here think of me as being a finger picking acoustic guitarist!

I think most of us at some point will eventually play more acoustic than electric, or at least play cleaner. I know I most probably will...

It's easier on the ears... :cool2:

Re: Got a new guitar!

I can tell by looking at it that it's a sweet one. Taylors were really popular out here as soon as they'd come out. Every once in awhile I run into a 'Lemon Grove' Taylor. They were sure made well back in the 90's. They still are, but the older ones were special.

I noticed on some acoustics, the nut is really dark. Why is that? < (sounds like Walters)

Re: Got a new guitar!

That's a gorgeous acoustic Lew, not a bad deal you got either. So how many acoustics do you own now? I ask cuz I seem to remember you posting that you got a collins that was killer too. I own only one acoustic and dunno if I could honestly justify another unless I got into classical.

I have six...all quite different from each other:

Taylor 814C...my stage guitar
Taylor 710
Collings OM-2HA
Takamine 12 string...another stage guitar
'29 or '30 National Style O Resonator
National Delphi Resonator...my stage resonator

So three that I play onstage and three that never leave the house except for recording.

Re: Got a new guitar!

Elegant and beautiful, nice words to put together to describe a guitar...

BTW, I have a very limited experience with acoustics but I'm thinking I vastly prefer the rosewood sides/back to the Mahogany ones. They sound far livelier while still round, warm and sweet...

There's quite a diff in tone between rosewood and mahogany and the words experienced players use to describe those diffs are really confusing! Mahogany is described as being "dry" and "bright" compared to rosewood...but what they're saying is that there is less "reverberation" with mahogany. And when they say bright, they mean more of the fundamental and less harmonics. Weird!

I do hear rosewood and being more resonant though.

There are guys who feel very strongly about one wood or the other.

There's also alot of discussion on forums like the Acoustic Guitar Forum over the types of spruce used in the tops.

Adirondack Spruce is my fave and it was used on Martins made before WWII. My Collings has an Adi top.

Sitka Spruce is more common and it sounds great too but it's not as hard and dense as Adi or Engleman and most guys think the harder the spruce the better and louder the tone.

I'm still learning about this stuff!
