Re: Got a new guitar!
The mid to late 90's Taylors are my favorites. But there are people who swear by the newest ones. Taylor moved the bracing around and some folks prefer the new bracing system.
The nut and brideg saddle are Tusq. Man-made Ivory. I've never seen it as dark as it on this guitar. I wonder if Taylor stained it to make it look old?
I have the same material on my other Taylor and on my Takamine but it's not nearly so dark!
I have real Mammoth Ivory bridge pins on my Taylor 814C and even though they are 5000 years old or something, they're not as dark as the Tusq bridge and nut on this '96 Taylor.
I really did hear an improvement in tone when I installed the Mammoth Ivory bridge pins, BTW. Makes the guitar livlier and the tone jumps right out of it.
I was surprised and how much better it sounds and I'll probably get a set from my Collings and this new Taylor as well. $100 a set though. Not cheap.
I can tell by looking at it that it's a sweet one. Taylors were really popular out here as soon as they'd come out. Every once in awhile I run into a 'Lemon Grove' Taylor. They were sure made well back in the 90's. They still are, but the older ones were special.
I noticed on some acoustics, the nut is really dark. Why is that? < (sounds like Walters)
