Got a new Les Paul, thinking about new pickups!

Hi Guys just picked up a Les Paul Classic Gold Top, love the gutar but I need better pickups in it. The Stock pups are great if you play heavy rock all night but I need more versatility.

I like using my Guitars volume knob so I need a pup that reacts well to that, I was thinking about a 59N & 59B can they do classic rock and heavy rock when I need them.

I have a 59N and C5 I could stick in there but I think the C5 is still to aggressive for what I want to do, I hear Pearly Gates are nice in Les Pauls but I dont want anything too bright.

What do you think, I need suggestions and advice!

here is a shot of my new axe!

The '59 is quite versitile. But I would go custom if you are playing the bassman and delux reverb. The Custom is a souped up PAF. Will do it all!

The 59 will work, or you can try the Alnico 2 Pros or the Custom as well. All three are worth looking into. You can also try Wagner/WCR Darkbursts as well.

The 59 Bassman RI is my main amp and use pedlas to get my dirty tones, definitely looking for pickups that react to yout playing!

the '59 and custom are great for that. The Custom will have more oomph.
Like fiesta said the A2 pro is great as well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Nothing beats a Pearly Gates set in a LP. Nothing.

Using Slash as an example you can see how versatile the alnico 2 pros are. They are about the same output range of a 59.

Sweet axe man! I WANT ONE!

Id probably go a pearly gates set if you were looking for something different, going from what ive heard anyway.

But id stick the C5 and 59 in there, dont think you can go wrong.

Love the PG's and they were designed to sound killer in a Les Paul. They split into excellant sounding single coils too.

I also love the PGn with a Duncan Custom as the bridge pickup...personally, I'd try that set.

+1 on the PGn/Custom rec from Lew- You might find the PG bridge a little too bright. But you don't seem like someone who is afraid to use the volume and tones. A little tweek of the vol/tone really tames the PG. So - if you don't mind on the fly adjustments, a PG set might be nice.

Re: Got a new Les Paul, thinking about new pickups!

Well today I replaced the pickups, I wanted more of a vintage vibe and better control of the guitar by using the volume knob. I installed the 59n/59b and man once i tweaked the pups and reset my amp and pedals the pickups were sounding dam good!

I will see how the pups sound with my band, I'm really diggin the Les Paul, man this guitar has plenty of sustain and plenty of balls!

Beatiful Lester there. How did you rid of the greenies in the trapezoid inlays?

Thats how it came, there is very little green in the inlays. I know I've seen pics where the inlays were very green looking on some guitars.

Benjy have you ever tried the 59n/59b in a Les Paul, if so how would they compare to the Pearly Gates. Which one would you say has more bite!
