Got a new Swiss Army Knife!!

Per Se...

Awhile back I got a Squier Vintage modified tele. I had one before and really liked it, but Im just not a tele guy, I sold it. But, Ive longed for the neck pickup tones I was getting with that guitar. So, I finally located a nice and reasonably priced on like it, only the new one is white, the orig one was black. This model comes with Duncan Designed pups in it, the config is a mini bucker neck, single in the middle and a tele pup in the bridge. On my orig, I put a Duncan Jerry Donahue in the bridge ,stock middle pup and I put a GFS Firebird pickup in the neck.. I loved the neck tones of that guitar . Ok, so. got a replacement. After some time trying to figure what pups to run in this one.. I decided on a Zhang bucker Waylon mini for the neck , Zhang Paul Bunyon in the bridge and in the middle, I put a Dimarzio Satch Track that I had gotten from a forum Bro here. Day before yest I got my Zhangbuckers in the mail.. Yesterday I got everything wired in. OMG!! Wow! The neck tone is everything I got with the last one and then some! All the way thru the range . Volume down, volume up, tone down, tone up.. Then to middle position.. The Satch track is labled as a neck pup, but in the middle on this guitar, I get this really fat tone thats really middy and full. It just sings. The the bridge gives me many variables too. and the tone knob changes it to a different animal.. Its like swiss army knife of sounds..

Some pics: (I thought I had before pics but I cant find any. Only visual difference is the middle single was white and had normal pole pieces..)

Re: Got a new Swiss Army Knife!!

Great looking tele. I'm sure the Zhang pickups sound great, and I like how the Dimarzio blends in with the guard. Flipping the control plate definitely puts the volume in a better place without your hand running into the big switch tip all the time.

However, your intonation looks way outta whack. You'd better check that.

Re: Got a new Swiss Army Knife!!

Thanks Gearjoneser! Actually, intonation is spot on... ?? Looks kooky tho huh? But, it works... Thats one thing I like about this model is that the control plate is opposite most teles. Yeah, the Zhangs are awesome.. but the biggest suprise is the dimarzio. They ususally dont trip my trigger for the most part, but Im getting the coolest tones from this. Im wondering what a satch track may sound like in the neck and bridge of another project ive got to do...??

Re: Got a new Swiss Army Knife!!

This looks pretty similar to the set up I have on my Butterscotch Blonde FSR Tele. My pickups are all Duncan products. But it's a mini-humbucker in the neck, a Cool Rails for Strat in the middle, and a Vintage Hot Stack in the bridge. I have a reversed plate like you do. But I got a Taipantone plate with a slanted switch. My saddles are different. I liked the traditional three brass barrelstailpiece. So I got a set of Callaham compensated brass pieces.

All in all it's an incredible machine. So I expect yours should be as well.

Sounds nice!! Whats the benefit to the 3 brass barrels? I hear lots of guys doing that. Seems to me like you'd want to be able to intonate each string..???

Yeah, Its a great machine! Ive NEVER been a tele guy, but have taken notice how much great music has been made on them, and how many guys play so many things on them. (covering bout everything) So years ago I thought I needed a tele in my arsenal..Bought a black vintage modified. Really enjoyed it and the neck tones I got were some of the best Ive ever gotten.. Had to thin out and sold it. But couldnt get passed those neck tones. So I found a good deal on another. (white one) This time I went with a slightly diff set of pups, but sounds great. And Im getting even better tones in the mid position than before. Hopefully Ill be able to run it through my main rig in the next day or so..
