Got a tip for straplocks...

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

I just finnished a 6 pack of those.... mind you here in Canada mine was in standard bottles.... I have had that beer in Europe before.... it is NICE!!!!!

cool strap lock idea.... i have come across black rubber washers like that before when i worked at Home Depot..... i worked there 5 years ago and we carried washers that had a small hole in a larger rubber washer.....

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

those suckers better work, i just ordered a bag of 100 of them LOL (they only sold them in bulk from the place i got them from). i don't use straplocks on my charvels since i like the large brass strap buttons and don't want to swap them out like all my other guitars to schallers. so i figure i'll give these a shot.

if anyone wants to try a set PM me and when my 100 of them get here i can sell them for like 50 cents shipped for a pair since i have no need for 100 of these things.

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

I've had no problems with Dunlops so I'm getting recessed Dunlops on my next guitar but that definitely sounds like a good idea

I'll take a picture and post it. The problem I had with traditional straplocks, like schallers, is the metal on metal grinding would create metal "dust", get into the pickups, and eventually wear out. I'm sure there are excellent products out there, but these little washers really do the trick!

A few drops of WD-40 should solve your dust problem. I've never had so much dust that it got in the pick ups tho... and I've never had a pair of schaller's wear out... :13:

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

I had schallers on all my guitars about 15 years ago, and they all wore out within I'd say about 2 years of use. The dust was pretty bad around the straplock itself, an ugly black metallic powder, had to wipe it off constantly, and eventually, the "socket" part didn't have enough metal to prevent the metal spindle from sliding out. Almost dropped my lp that way. Same thing happened to my bass player at the time. I imagine they probably improved them by now, since a couple of you guys aren't having any problems! Good to know. I'm happy with my washers tho, and the rubber does not show any signs of wear, so I'll just stick with those.

I'm running about 15+ years on the same set of Schallers on the same strap, and that axe is my #1.

You either got a bad batch or you're a mutant.

Quit destroying the Grolsch bottles...the only appeal of those things is being able to put homebrew in them and when you gut them for parts it loses even that!

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

no I think they were set up correctly, I still have them in a box somewhere, and you can see the damage to the buttons and the cup part. Maybe I am a mutant, but it's not like I'm given to Yngwie style over the shoulder throw moves or anything...oh well, now you've got me wondering what the heck I did to those things....

Re: Got a tip for straplocks...

I use Schaller Straplocks. You MUST use loc-tite on the threaded part that goes on the strap. Never had a problem.

Well, you've been using the schallers incorrectly then. The metal pin does NOT hold the lock in place. The strap button is supposed to sit in the cup shaped part attached to your strap. With periodical tightening, the Schallers should never fail.

Yeah...the open end of the 'cup' should be pointing up, so the pin just keeps the strap from falling off when there's no weight on it. :D

If you were unwilling to drink the beer and you didn't have friends that were willing to consume the beer...

....for ****s sake you at least need to get some new friends.

Only once in my life have I needed to use the phrase "I've got too much beer" in order to get my friends to drink it. Once.
