Got an MIM Tele and need some advice!

I picked up a MIM Tele last week after playing about 20 of them at various music stores and finally finding one that played great with nice action . The high E,B and G string are having some trouble staying in tune , would an aftermarket set of tuners take care of this or could the nut need some work . Keep in mind the factory strings are still on it , Thanks!

Try a string change, and while you're doing that check the nut to make sure it's got enough space for the strings. Generally when setting up a new guitar I'd wrap some really light grade sandpaper once around the string and then sand lightly into the nut with it. An aftermarket set of tuners wouldn't be a bad idea at all, and neither would graptech sattles or something like it.

I had a similar problem with my MIM Tele, but the tuning problems went away after I changed strings and lubed the nut with graphite. You might try that first before going more extreem.

The aftermarket tuners certainly won't hurt, but my guess is that the strings just hadn't been stretched out enough to stay in tune. Did you try stretching them out with some bends first, then retuning? Backlash on new tuners hasn't normally been a problem for me, even with cheaper ones; that's always happened after they're older.

i would say listen to jumpmarine he seems to be on the right track. Try new strings, lube the nut and if te problem persists then try the new tuners, nut, saddles though any of those new things will improve your tone but you can live without them for a while. Next i have to say get some duncans in there

Well, I figure the hardware on a MIM Strat and MIM Tele can't be too different.....

The above advice is good. I'm using a set of 13's on my MIM Strat and the tuners hold tune just fine, even with the increased tension. The trick is to make sure you're strings are wrapped correctly.

Also, when I installed those strings I had a new nut cut and installed. They guy doing it said the nut on it was already good quality and didn't really need replacement, but I did it anyway.

Just some food for thought.
