I've pretty set on finishing my tele swamp ash body some sort of teal color. Do you think some type of see through teal finish would look good over swamp ash? Got any pics of sweet looking teal guitars? Thanks

Most Swamp Ash is very light like Maple, perhaps a little more tan component, less yellow. But a teal aniline dye will completely usurp the natural wood color. You obviously couldn't do it to Walnut, and Mahogany looks greenish and dirty. That's why if there's a teal over Mahogany it's usually in the clear coat, and pretty dark. I would definitely do it as a stain, not in the clear. You can mix some into your clear, too, but when it comes to blues, greens, and anything in between, I always stain it on lighter colored woods. I prefer almost all my natural colors stained, too, but especially teal/blue.

So I could stain it a teal? I think that would be best. What kind of stain's are good? Should I get the stain from reranch? Thanks.

Don't know about reranch aniline, it's probably fine. I get mine from woodworker's supply.

Anyway the water based aniline (with proper technique) will get you there. I use "green pea**** blue" for that color. (the sensor filtered the full name of the bird-pretty funny) They show it in the color chart but it's not in the price list. I don't recommend falling into the trap of "stain black, sand back" on Ash. It's a popular technique, so the black goes into the pores and stays there after you've sanded it off the surface. I think it looks artificial. If you want, get a darker blue aniline, and use that first. Then sand it away and go with the teal. The grains will pick up the darker blue, but it will look much more natural than black. And the wet teal will slightly reflow and bleed the dark blue a little for some good depth out of those grains.

Here's my 2000 PRS McCarty in Teal Black. It actually looks like teal forest green.
