Pretty convincing sax playing. Well done piece of music. Could be in the soundtrack of a motion picture.

It is the Breathy Tenor Sax patch in the Roland GR33, The bebop comes from being feed copious amounts of Jazz by my dad

Thanks a lot. One thing I learnt early on about guitar synths is you need to put your mindset into the instrument you are emulating. Banging out guitar riffs on a sax patch doesn't work. Part of me wants to clean this up this morning but my band could never use this. It was good drunken fun making it.

Well-known set of Roland samples.

The guitar synth tracking set up is seriously good - to the point that it faithfully follows bent notes that fail to return to pitch. :foot:

Re: Got drunk and wrote this

I really enjoyed that. Thanks.

When I play hammered, I sound like crap. Then again, I often sound like crap when I play sober.

Re: Got drunk and wrote this

Without wishing to appear rude, using MIDI Guitar to trigger complex wind instrument melodies is usually about as convincing to a saxophonist as using keyboards to "play" guitar chords is to us.

The ROMpler instrument sounds are constructed from an attack transient section, followed by a looped sustain section. In order to disguise the loop, synth manufacturers invariably introduce arbitrary vibrato at a fixed speed. Like guitarists, real saxophonists alter their vibrato width, depth and rate almost note by note.

Also, as a long-term Roland owner, it is all too easy to recognise a factory preset straight away. Disbelief fails to be suspended.

That was cool. It started out with a very Christopher Cross type vibe and then transitioned to the smokey Gin side.

My playing is relatively consistent whether I am drunk or sober. Either way, though, my playing can only be appreciated by a hammered audience.

This explains the success of a great deal of contemporary country music.

Re: Got drunk and wrote this

This brings back memories of my GK-2 and GR-30.
Wouldn't be out of place on a sci fu noir movie.

Re: Got drunk and wrote this

As a person who used to play Tenor and Alto Saxophone in high school, I'm kinda amazed at just how expressive a guitar MIDI patch of a sax can be. Cool stuff Bruce!
