Re: Got FX?

I've come a long way, I used to be an effects junkie eons ago, doing the whole rackmount effects thing and all. Now, just ONE good multi-effects unit will do MORE than enough for me (namely for 'verb's and delay, I'm picking up a Yamaha Magic Stomp in the near future), I'm of the mind that if you can't get a great tone from just your axe and amp alone, you need to reevaluate things. For distortion, I'll NEVER use a pedal, always from the amp itself.

The other thing I find is that if you run through a ton of pedals and such, you LOSE so much tone presence, punch and signal quality, nothing hurts my ears like a cheesy over-processed guitar sound.

Re: Got FX?

Lately I've been using a Wah, a Delay and an EQ for solo boost. But as we're putting a new band together I'm re-evaluating as we go. I'd love to get back to a guitar->cord->amp setup. It's so much easier for when you play on cramped pub/club "stages".

Re: Got FX?

One Wah, rarely used, but for fun when i do use it, i doubt i'd ever use it during a gig.

Re: Got FX?

I've since replaced the GE-7 with a sniper-modded model and the PSM (previously used to switch the volume pedal and EQ in/out) has been replaced with an HAO Rumble Mod overdrive pedal.

Re: Got FX?

At present:

Guitar > Boss tuner > Vox wah > Visual Sounds Jekyll & Hyde > Dunlop Univibe > T.C. Electronics Chorus > Carl Martin Delayla > amp.

Re: Got FX?

Hmm various overdrives...most of them Carl Martin PlexiTones that are voiced differently to what ever I like to use.
Ibanez RC-99 chorus
Electro Harmonix Memory Man deluxe
CM Two Faze
Delayla(prototype)
Delayla XL two of those, one stock and the other is modded for extra spacy sound
One modded CM Crunch drive
One Schaller Fuzz...very old
A Meyer Treblebooster FEToverdrive
Hot Drive'n'Boost MKII modded for extra clear sound
TC-2290
Klark reverb
CM compressor
CM Hydraboost
Ibanez FL-301
Vox Valvetone

Re: Got FX?

Here is a pic of my pedal board, complete with zip ties. It is a piece of plywood that was made into sort of a breadboard looking thing, complete with handle. I carry it in a keyboard case...I never take it out of the case when we play, just unzip it, connect it to the snake to my rack, and go.

Re: Got FX?

guitar into amp thats about it, i dont know enough about effects loops to even bother with pedals right now i just need a nice amp.

Re: Got FX?

for pedals, just a wah ...

Re: Got FX?

My best friend doesn't use any effects at all... she just plugs her stock Paul Straight into a Single Rec and a Marshall 1960BV cab and loves it that way. She doesn't really feel the need to use any effects, while I'm a total junkie about it. I was chatting with her and she said, "You know what I've noticed? You like effects a lot, but only use two or three of them at most at one time. You're not using everything but you're always using SOMETHING." :laugh2:

Thats a pretty accurate description of my effects use and abuse... it's always something.

Re: Got FX?

17 years ago my dad gave me a guitar, and that week I bought a phaser pedal at a garage sale for 8 bucks.

Then I bought a delay pedal...
And a tube screamer...
Then a rack mount reverb unit...
Then a roland guitar effects processor rack mount...
So I had to buy a midi foot controller to make all that crap operate efficiently LIVE.

Soon it dawned on me that I didn't yet own a wah pedal, so I got one of those too.

Then I got a bigger and badder rack mount guitar processor, with tubes in it, cause the old one wasn't cutting it.

Then... I bought a Rivera combo amp, and something peculiar happened to me.

I ditched ALL of my effects, 'cept for the tube screamer.

Then, this year, I went and bought the latest and greatest multi-effects processor.

And threw SD pick ups into my favorite guitar. The poor little effects unit spends most of its time tuning my guitar or getting bypassed all-together.

I have completed the circle once.

What amp to buy next?
