got my 800 back

i sent out my early 80's Canadian 2204 800 head to have it returned to stock..... the tech did a hell of a lot of work for me for $80... he rewired it to bypass the gain mod and then fixed some grounding issues with it and checked and biased the tubes... so he did a great job for the low bucks...

but i'm having some issues with a weird noise with it.... i get a hissing noise on low notes... like a bee buzzing on some low notes.... this tech says it's normal operation... i say no way it should not be doing this... so i guess i'll try a different tech to fix this issue... but what could be making this noise... Caps? Tranny?

It's not my speaker cab as i tried different heads thru the same cab and cables and it works fine...

Filter caps.

Bring it by and I'll change 'em for you.

I'll be on the next flight down... I'll throw a clean pair of underwear in the back of the amp and use it as my carry on bag....

Filter caps was what i was thinking most likly..... this thing has been a noise beast since i bought it.... I finally got the grounding issues delt with.... the repair note says it was not grounded to the chassy because of paint? and there was a faulty imput jack with an open ground....

guess i'll have it recapped someday soon... i got this head for $500.... early 80's 2204 800's in better contition go for $1200-$1350 around here mostly.. so far i've spent $80 on repair bills and $35 on a roll of Marshall covering to recover it... i need new corners to put on it... I'm still ahead of the game... but if it costs much more then $500 more to get it working and looking right i should of never bought it... i don't think it will take more then a few Hundred more to get it working right.... but i knew it would be a gamble...

Hope it works out...I had one of those, and I regret dumping it!:smash:

thanks.... it's one of my little projects... i kept buying broken stuff and try to fix it up as i go along.... I put a stop to that as it started to get too much.. i have 4-5 project guitars sitting waiting for me to get active..... and this amp needs to be recovered and fixed up...

Re: got my 800 back

That amp has mojo, and its going to make your project guitars sound so much better. Get the caps changed, and if it still doesn't sound good flip it.
