Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

So it finally came in the mail today, and wow am I impressed! :)

Now, bear in mind while reading this that up until now I had never had a nice amp. Nice guitars, sure. But not nice amps. But that's all changed now!

This little puppy is pretty darn cool. I haven't been able to absolutely crank it yet, since my "crank" room is about 110 degrees (no ventilation to speak of). So i've been playing somewhat low in my house proper, trying not to disturb family. But man is this thing nice.

Two things bug me - the reverb is pretty weak and there' no effects loop. Besides that, this amp is pretty much perfect for me, and man is she pretty! Really a conversation piece (I've gotten compliments from a bunch of people already on looks and sound - even though they know nothing about amps).

I'm a happy little panda. This $215 investment is making a HUGE impact. I'll try to ost pics when I can find my usb cable.

Glad you like it. I remember you talking about it. Those are great amps. Let's see the pictures.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

10" or 12" speaker? Either way a smokin little amp, wish I had held on to mine, good luck with it and enjoy.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

Thanks bro! I finally found "the sound" I've been looking for! It's a really nice feeling.

I still haven't got the Slash tone, but I suspect that has two problems: one, I don't have the A2P yet, and 2, I don't have a $1000+ Marshall. Even so, I'm getting some nice sounds out of this thing! I suspect a really nice set of pups (which I should be getting soon) will make my sound shoot about 5-fold.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

congrats to you bro!!! i'm glad you're loving your amp...and as always...

NEW STUFF ROCKS!!!

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

New stuff definitely rocks. Too bad I had to go to the dentist today, and I'm trying to put up blinds in the house right now.

Pain in the ***.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

CONGRATS to you, mate !!!

I remember when i got my first proper amp, oooo, when was that, ahooooo, about, mmmmm, let me think, a MONTH-AND-A-HALF AGO.

Best feeling ever !
I always said, i'll spend more money on FX, and MUCH more money on APS than on guitars.

So, now i am a proud member of the Fender amp family.
(Blues Jr, btw)

So, is your amp all valve ?
I do not know the Crate that you have.
Saying that, about a year ago, i looked into the V . . .something. The all-valve 5watter.

Again, enjoy . . .

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

I've got one too, nice little amps. You may need a new reverb tank, mine did when I got it (used). It cranks some pretty wicked gain for a little 15w, huh?

Did you get the 10" or the 12"?

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

12", and yeah it needs a new reverb tank. How much are they?

This thing does get loud though, and it doesn't get muddy. I'm really pleased!

I should have held out for one with a 12"...mines got a 10.

I haven't replaced the tank on mine yet so I couldn't really say. I'd be interested in knowing though if anyone's has had that done before.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

Like I said, the reverb is pretty weak. I wouldn't mind a new reverb tank.

An how easy is it to access the tubes? Like I said I just got this thing. It must be somewhat easy.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

I saw someone use one at a show recently with a Telecaster and also some wierd custom guitar that I had never seen before, double humbucker.

His tone was so massive. He went from superclean stones-ish to really quacky, wet, overdrive soaked solos. It sounded awesome.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

I can't decide if I like my Tele or my Epi more with the thing. at the moment, the vote is Tele. But after the Epi pups are out in a few weeks, it should be an easy decision.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

i played one of those today and i really liked it. great clean tone, sounded great with the Ibanez Artcore i played.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

The cleans are pretty good. Well the bass is fantastic. The dirtys are just that - slightly too muddy. But a pup change and new pots and a pedal could make this thing really really amazing.

I have this same amp, but with the 12 inch speaker.

Boy, you nailed it dead-on with the above review.

I like it MUCH better than my old 5150 combo, but this amp is too "loose", even with the Evolution pickup that's in my "stunt guitar". But I do love the warm distortion it generates. It's just....WARM.

It could be that changing caps & pots, whatever, would do the trick, but all of that is above me. And yes, the reverb is horrid. But hey, it's a sub-$300 tube amp, so I'll shut up!

I'd rather have the DSL combo amp, but I'm not dropping $1100 on it.

Re: Got my Crate Vintage Club 20 today! Yay me!

Pretty much! Once I upgrade my guitars and stuff, this could be pretty darn cool.
