A few years ago i was on the phone with Frank Falbo and he was telling me with excitement all the products he was playing with. obviously the P-rails are his baby. But he was as excited about a new VCA comp that would be like a studio comp in a guitar pedal.
last week: $43.99 with coupon code @MF. Which is unheard of considering it was $157 normally. Beyond the obvious business of this being a closeout, I've been itching to try one as the Tap Trem and Deja Vu are the best I've played.
Now I don't usually require a comp in my rig, I love the quiet to loud dynamics i can get with just my fingers. But this thing is epic for so many situations.
I use it as a preamp at the front of my rig. refine my dynamics with a slight bit of comp with a slightly fast attack and subtle settings I get this amazing enhancement. Then enter the double back control to dial back in some of those transient peaks. wow!
other uses ive played with:
chicken picken squash - might be a bit too hi-fi for this with the doubleback blended in. But i like it.
clean solo booster. amazing!
lofi grit with the sustain control maxed and a slow attack.
treble booster using the freq filter doubleback feature in the high pass setting.
acoustic pickup processor - WOW, makes my sisters takamine sound like a lot nicer pickup system is onboard.
Looking forward to future releases of duncan pedals. I've not tried a bad one. the only complaints i have had were the power grid being too aggressive and the output from the tweak fuzz only being enough for single coils.
lookout for folks trying to flip these. if you see one for under $75 id say it is well worth it. first comp i will keep.
