Got my hands on a Silvertone 1482!

This baby is dirty and dusty, but she's in phenominal shape overall. Couple of bugs to work out, but nothing fatal by any stretch. The tremelo is weak and I think I have a loose connection somewhere in the amp, but I think a new tube for the tremelo and a little solder should help her get rid of her sniffles. All the tubes are original Silvertone tubes. Tolex is dirty, but not ripped or scuffed. No rust anywhere. Just dust and mojo. Speaker seems fine. All knobs and hardware present and in great shape.

I've heard many talk about the tone of these amps and I have to say that they were 100% right. This thing sounds like someone put a bluesman and some wires in a blender and ground them up and re-molded them as an amplifier. It has character and tone in spades. The amp sounds great when clean, but it really growls and wails when you crank it. I thought it would be really dark and it can be, but it's a great sounding little amp overall and any thoughts of modding it went out the window once I played through it for a while. Now I just want to get it sounding like original and clean up the tolex. It's too cool to modify. Maybe I'll buy a non-functional junker and modify it, but this amp just gets a light massage to get the kinks out. I like it way too much to change it. :smokin:

I'll post pics when I get a chance.

#1) I'll assume that you weren't the guy who bought the one I was looking at on ebay (I wasn't going to buy, just wishing)...

#2) Are you going to put new tubes in it? I read the descriptions a lot of times and people brag about having the original tubes in amps, but I think it be worth it to try new tubes, then again, it's your amp. As I understand it, new tubes make things sound good.

#3) Congratulations!

Congratulations. I too am a silvetone owner(a twin twelve). They are rocking amps for sure.

Re: Got my hands on a Silvertone 1482!

It was my first amp as a kid. I got rid of it because it didn't do metal.

What a dumba$$. I wish I still had it.

I got rid of a Supro Thunderbolt for the same reason. I'm still kicking myself for that mistake.

The one I was got was in Gastonia, NC and the auction had already ended without a sale about a week or two ago. Max bix was $169 and the reserve was just $31 more. I spent $200 before tax. I know that is a little high, but for the condition this amp is in, I think it was a good deal. :27:
