Check that beast out, this thing is awesome.

Okay first, here's what I know. Its a late 50's early 60's Ibanez of some sort(I think). I think its maple? I need YOUR help to indentify it. It has no serial number that I can find, and its a set neck. Standby for more pics and thanks in advance.

*UPDATE* See last post by me.

That is cool as hell. Watch out Bludave doesn't come around looking to steal it for his collection, it reminds me of his Harmony.

Well, I have it all taken apart. Everything in it looks to be in working order. But when I plug it in there is no sound. Maybe the pots are dead? No one has any info on this thing? Or the Gibson case?

Re: Got my hands on something cool(need help)

ok...

COOL AS ****.

I'd rather have that than... any newer ibanez. Except maybe a few early 60s offerings.

No clue what's wrong with it...

But that Gibson case is probably worth $$$ (dunno. maybe not)

Re: Got my hands on something cool(need help)

:laugh2: I figured you'd like it Dangly. Believe it or not, the one string thats on plays well, the neck is straight. And the only real problem is the electronics and the nut and the bridge need to be re-glued so its in pretty decent shape. Wish it was mine, sadly I am just borrowing it. But maybe if I get it working the guy thats letting me borrow it might let me have it.

Re: Got my hands on something cool(need help)

Just had it stringed up. It works, dont know what was wrong the first time. Sounds surpisingly good.

Re: Got my hands on something cool(need help)

Okay. Got some info.

It has the body of a 1959 'rhythm' series Ibanez along with the inlays. But it has a 60 or 61 headstock. And its a set neck so I am assuming that it hasnt been replaced. Its possible that this could be an odd, or rare model.

EDIT: Oh and this sounds beautiful with my amp set to clean with the tremolo on.

If you don't like it I'll take it ;)

Man, it rocks. Hard. How does it sound like exactly?

Re: Got my hands on something cool(need help)

Thats bad ass. Almost looks like one of the Rick Turner guitars that Lindsey Buckingham Plays.

Re: Got my hands on something cool(need help)

why do anything to it :D

I will likely never own a guitar that I don't modify in some way (small or big). The closest company to unchangeable is Gretsch. Everything is spot-on perfect on many of their models, especially the pickups. I'd change stuff on Gibby's (like pups, knobs, etc.), I'd change things on Fender's, etc. I'm in the process of changing every single thing on my Green guitar.

To me, most guitars are imperfect. I'm am so particular in design, that it borders on obsession. For instance, in The Sims 2, I will spend weeks designing, building and furnishing a house. I spend much of my free time trying to find that part for my guitars (and much of my free money).

My point is that I am a person who likes perfect design (at least in my eyes). Cream is not white, and so I won't mix the two. Gold and chrome don't mix. With this guitar, the knobs are ugly, the bridge is busted (and ugly), the pickup is gold (and should be chrome), not all of the washers at the base of the tuners match, one of the tuners is bent, the cae is not an Ibanez case (yes that matters to me - although that is a cool Gibson case and deserves a great Gibby to go inside), and the pickguard has writing on it (which does add to character in a way, but should still be fixed).

On the other hand, this guitar is cool as hell. I would love fixing that up.

Re: Got my hands on something cool(need help)

hehe... chrome and gold often go well together IMO, but if anything, everything on that axe should be gold :D

love the knobs too...

And I can almost never tell the difference between white and cream... just leave it on there for 20 years, and it will match :smokin:

Re: Got my hands on something cool(need help)

Gold would look cool on there, but you can't mix, IMO. And white does become ceram, which just looks cool!
