Got my new Jet City 20W Combo - and I am thoroughy disappointed

Re: Got my new Jet City 20W Combo - and I am thoroughy disappointed

I love my Tiny Terror... after playing the Vox NT a handful of times, and loving my AC30 (uk built) a whole bunch, I still feel the Orange was and is the superior amp. Its not really a one-trick box... the "trick" is to start with the master up and turn the gain to taste.

Better tubes also help A LOT.

I found that it works pretty well with a wide variety of cabs where the Vox seemed to be pickier... the 3-band EQ on the Vox also didn't offer as much variation as I'd have hoped for.

There's a ton of sounds in the Orange if you dig into it... even more so if you've got a collection of pedals & guitars to mix it up.

You and I talked a bit about this when I was on an amp hunt.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a TT to play and so I went with what I knew I liked, and got a NT.

Point is, they both are great, I'm sure.

just keep playing them and see how it goes.

I'm lucky I have a great local shop that pretty much carries anything you'd ever want to take for a test drive. As long as they can tell you are not some a-hole going in their to abuse their mdse, they are happy to let you check stuff out.

So I did get to try out the NT, TT and the Jet City (IMO, yuk - and where this whole thread started). One day I'd love to go in and check out their Carr, Divided by 13 and custom shop gits and other boutique stuff, but I'm not worthy ;)

Their people know their sh!t and are not out to screw you on a quick sale. And what is even better is they are very competitive with most stuff.

They have the NT for $479 and the TT for $499. I could get either on eBay for $100 less (used) but I like having a B&M shop to stand behind my more substantial buys. The more I think about it - the TT calls my name

Too rich for my needs. $500 is pushing it already. Not that I can't afford it - I can't justify it

(same answer for the Zinky too)

Ok, fine...LOL

I'll be test driving a Blackheart BH15 head tonight and probably the next couple weeks. That might be my low wattage amp even though I can run my Vox AD50VT at bedroom levels up to club levels with no problem. I just want a low wattage tube amp for the small places.

^ I considered the blackheart 15 for a while. Blackheart aint half bad, I liked their 5W deally, it was my first tube amp.
I had reliability issues with the 5W (pots coming loose, took me forever to find out what it was!!) and cab rattle. I just decided after that to go look at the mainstream stuff and see what else is out there, like, maybe there was better quality, right?

I like blackheart as a company and i did like their 5W. But to match the Les Paul, I wound up realizing that I wanted something pretty british tonally, and the clips I heard of the BH15 didn't sound like what I wanted in that respect.

I would love to try their 100W, which has the operating mode and pentode/triode modes. 33W class "A" triode up to 100W class AB pentode... I bet there's some good sounds in there.

And you could do that with the Jet City, but with no punch or dynamics to your picking

Played one at my local GC last week and yep your review bout nailed the one I played it was just awful:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:grumble: !!
