Thanx to everyone who helped me decide.

Re: Got my Visual Sounds J&H today !!!

glad you like it, it's my favorite too. i told you it was a rockin beast and now you're a believer like me - good for you man. i like the metal muff almost as much, but would never get rid of either. they're my main pedal arsenal these days.

here's a tip: run your metal muff gain just a tad under what you normally use, then crank on the jeckle side and switch off the bass boost. you will be amazed at how great your metal muff will sound. you won't believe the kind of smooth sounding overdrive that will give you. try not to use it too much because that's kind of my signature tone :chairshot

glad to have been some assistance. now in return, you have to let us hear some clips of your new tone.

I've got the older grey J&H, but it's still a superb pedal! Glad you like yours.

Re: Got my Visual Sounds J&H today !!!

can you describe the sound a little bit????

How close is the OD section to a TS9????

How much gain does the distortion section (Hyde?) offers?? Is it natural sounding?

I need to check these out, sounds cool. I've almost pulled the trigger on one more than once.

i've heard a lot of pedals that are supposed to sound like a ibz tube screamer, but i can't really say that any of them are particularly similar because i tried a lot of tube drivers before i ever tried an ibz tube screamer.

the J&H does sound very natural. on the jeckle side, it's got a really nice and smooth sounding tube driver. i don't know if it's particularly ibanez flavor, but it is an extremely good sounding tube driver.

on the hyde side there's a distortion, but it wouldn't qualify as a nu-metal pedal. i'm sure you could play many nu-metal songs with it, but the distortion is much sweeter than that.

the thing about the jeckle and hyde is that it really adds to the sound of your guitar and amp. unlike some pedals that sound similar on almost any amp, this one has a particularly good quality sound that comes through your equipment the way a pedal should work. if you got vintage pickups and a vintage amp, you're going to get vintage tone - even at high gain settings. if you got high-output ceramic pups with a high gain amp, you're going to get an aggressive but flavorful sound.

there are also very useful tone controls and a couple of low/top boost buttons that can really shape the sound. this pedal can be used alone on the clean channel, or in conjunction with your amp distortion, and it will sound great either way. chances are, no one will buy the jeckle and hyde and return it. it's definitely a keeper. most people who don't like it bought it with unrealistic expectations. this is a toneful pedal and isn't made to offer distortion that can maim crowds.

Re: Got my Visual Sounds J&H today !!!

thanks.I am definately NOT looking for a nu metal distortion......what i was curious to know is if the hyde side of the pedal is capable of giving a warm, sustaining, fat high gain lead sound and not that kind of fizzy distortion (or even worst scooped) most high gain pedals have......

Re: Got my Visual Sounds J&H today !!!

fenderiahs the jekyll and hyde can cover everything really. It goes from light soft overdrive of country to high gain unscooped to scooped. It replaced basically every distortion pedal i've used.

Re: Got my Visual Sounds J&H today !!!

Shogunlegend bro awesome advice on the settings, it does sounds great that way, and about the clips sure as soon as i get some recording gear together.

Re: Got my Visual Sounds J&H today !!!

I love mine, not sure if I gave ya my recommendations. Sometimes, I use BOTH sides for a real BIG fat sound, boost, we cover Megalomaniac (Incubus) I stay on the Jeckyl side for the softer single note stuff (also use the VS H2O) and right when the 'G' comes in with all it's fury (hehe) I hit the Hyde side and it gives a nice boost and more cut to the power chords. I read the Strokes use this pedal along with a MXR Micro amp...I got one a while ago, never liked it until I got this pedal. I use it for all my solos as it gives the volume boost without coloring the J&H tone I'm using...I also get some nice harmonic overtones just verging on feedback which I dig. Now if ya wanna go deeper and have a huge board like I do, A MXR 10 band EQ will take your J&H to a new level...it's on all the time and just gave this pedal a huge fatness and rich tones that you can dial in to your sonic sweet spot. Have fun playing with it. Great customer service, I had my H2O upgraged by VS, quick service and they fixed my broken jack no charge.:13:

Re: Got my Visual Sounds J&H today !!!

Sounds like there are different versions. I seen some listed as the "red" version, whats the differences?

Re: Got my Visual Sounds J&H today !!!

The red version has been improved in many areas over the grey version. They're called that because of the paintjob. If it's painted red, you've got the red version.

The bypass has been worked on, the Sharp/Blunt switch (which I kept on blunt), the Bass boost on the TS side, the capacitors in the whole pedal. It's almost like a JnH 2.

Personally I didn't really like it when I first had time with it, and returned it. Maybe I should give it another go since resale prices have been dropping...
