Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

...doing the job dang fine :cool2: Should have bought one earlier! Now I can get and shape the tones I need without spending thousands of bucks with the same equipment.

Any avid EQ-pedal users here as well? I see very seldom EQ pedals on pedal boards. A must have in my opinion.

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

i used a boss eq for many years back when i was gigging with a marshall half stack. it was handy for sure. i dont use it so much now since i started playing thru fender type amps.

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

I have a GE7 on my pedal board. I use mine to reduce the input volume at a fixed level while on a gain channel.

Interesting! I have a Fender Blues Deluxe and like to get more of a Mike Moreno jazz tone through this amp (less lows and more mids) and the EQ pedal helped me a lot. When I switch the pedal off, I don't dig the sound :D but I didn't try the EQ pedal in a Funk/Rock setting out yet. I have to fiddle with it but it works wonders to my ears.

Try to boost the 200Hz area and you will see how much mud there is to find. :friday:

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

I've been recently using the MXR 10 band EQ through the effects loops in my amps, it really totally reconfigures the tone, great if you want a brutal metal tone

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

I ge7 has been always on my pedalboard, I put it after the distortion box with a little notch around 1Khz, it's perfect at the moment of the solo.
At some point I used two units, one before the distortion, one after, now I use a boost instead of the first (a seymour duncan pickup booster at the moment)

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

The GE7 is a pretty good pedal. I've had one now for many years, and used it mainly to try and get funky strat tones out of a tele (with a surprising degree off success all things considered).

If you are a bit electronically inclined, then the Monte Allums component modification really improves this pedal and cuts the hiss.

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

i like my fish n chips, use it as a boost with some low and high boosting as well, sort of like tone shaping your own personal boost

I didn't notice a hiss. It works just the way it should :) But I will keep this in mind if there will be some issues (hope not!), thanks!

First I wanted to go for the MXR as well but the Boss fits better size wise. I think you can't go wrong with either one :)

you can substitute the opamp with low noise and cheap TL072 and signal electrolytic capacitors with film type of the same values, this reduces the noise and raise the fidelity, these are not the monte allums mods but I can assure they work, I did it on mine

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

Now that I finally have an amp with an FX loop, I'll try it through there on a gig I have this Friday.
For a solo boost. Should be good!

Diego, I've got the same amp.....works really well. You don't need to add much to the volume slider at all if the mids are boosted too.

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

I rehearsed today with my jazz quartet..the awesomeness! This EQ pedal is what I needed! :)

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

I actually use 2 EQ's. An MXR 6-band and a Fish-n-Chips. Both in the loop. Stereo rig.

Re: Got myself a Boss EQ-Pedal...

I got an MXR 10-band, a Maxon PQ-9 and Boss GE-7. I've owned a DOD EQ and Dano Fish n Chips as well.

MXR 10-band is AMAZING! The GE-7 sounds very "unnatural" next to it. I use my EQ for boost during solos. I'd love to try it as a cut rather than a boost through my JCM800 sometime -- kinda like what Paul Gilbert was doing before he got his HBE Detox.
