Got the C5 installed in the Schecter!

Alright, I got the C5 in today, so after work I got all the tools/supplies out and dove into my first pickup swap. Everything went well, the first time I plugged the guitar in to test it I got nothing from the pickup, but I found out that when I soldered the hot connection to the volume pot the solder ran just a bit past and didn't make a solid joint. So a tad more solder fixed the problem, and now it's working great! I'll post my initial thoughts of the pickup tomorrow as it's getting late and I have to get up for work. Thanks to all those that gave me tips on soldering methods and what equipment and supplies to look into, everything went very smoothly.

Ok, now for my first impressions. I first tried it on a clean setting, full. The sound was much warmer than before to my ears, with a more even response and a tad more treble. Backing off the treble knob just a touch leveled it out, but I love that there's no mid spike giving it that constant vowel sound. Then I pulled up on the tone knob to split it... and my jaw dropped. The split sound before was just like the full, but with less output. The C5 turned into a whole new animal, with some nice single coil spank.

Then I pushed the tone knob back down and flipped the Rectoverb over to Channel 2. This is where I was most impressed, the slightly lower output of the C5 was immediately apparent. It sounded HUGE. Not as much bass, but the low end is tighter, with punchy mids and a smoother top end. Exactly what I was looking for. The notes burn after you pick 'em, the lead tone is very throaty and sounds like there's some meat behind it.

Again, these are just first impressions, so it's really only the differences I noted from the previous pickup. I hope to have some time this weekend to crank the amp and really give the C5 (and the Jazz that will be in by then) a solid workout. So far it looks like it will be working out great though :).

What did I tell you Fretfire, the C5 tone was exactly what you were describing.

I cranked the amp up some this afternoon (I got off early from work because of snow :)), I'm definitely diggin' this pickup.

Glad you like it! i used to have the C-5 in mine but i recently changed it out for a Pearly Gates because i wanted more clarity and less output.

Definitely, especially since the last time I needed a pickup swap my regular tech was out of town. I had to have it done quick, so I went to another shop. Two days later (didn't get to use the guitar, so I had no backup) and $90 in labor he was done. He installed 2 pickups and a 3 way switch, no coil splitting, just straight up H-H action. So yeah I wanted to learn to do it myself :).
