i got the JB installed in my SG, still have the stock neck pickup, i like it. the JB sounds great distorted, not quite as powerful as i expected though, but clean, not so good. it seems really week when played clean, theres noticeably more volume in the neck pickup than the JB. anyone have any ideas what this could be?

It could be the height of your pickups. I had a smilar problem in my Ibanez RG (Hum-Hum). When I set the switch to middle (to use both my Jazz and Distortion pickups), the tone of the jazz overpowered the Distortion, causing very little difference between the sound of the middle and neck position. I raised the height of my distortion to 2/16 of an inch away from the strings and lowered the jazz to about 3.5/16 below the strings, and now the tone is pretty balanced.
Play around with the pickup height until you get a sound or a balance that pleases your ears. If this stragegy doesn't work, I'm sure one of the veterens can handle this one :laugh2:

It might be a wiring problem. Also, try lowering the neck pickup and raising the JB up a little higher. There's more string vibration available for a neck pickup, so sometimes they're louder unless you make allowances for same. JB's are big and full sounding in a clean setting, too, so my guess is that there's a wiring problem. The coils may be out of phase.

That's something I find funny about Duncans. They seem to sound best pretty close to the strings. My Gibson pickups were never as close as my C-5's, JB's, or 59's.

There is a guide as to what height the pickups should be set to on the duncan site somewhere, i followed that and it worked great, it actually sets them pretty close to the strings.
