Got the next home recording amp....

Re: Got the next home recording amp....

:) I know. Congrats. Have fun with it. Very good product - Accutronics reverb, Jensen speaker.
Home amp ? It can get very loud - gig loud, deafening loud :)

Tonewise, cleans are perfect. Channel takes pedals extremely well.

Crucnch is little mid-oriented with blues, classic rock, hard rock gain.
You can dial in some very responsive and organic tone.
When you turn up both drive and volume, it gets nasty :)

It's a little too small. Would be better if the box was larger so that people could fit in another speaker or reverb unit.
Also, may be the reason some of them had heat problems. They redesigned heat outlets afterwards.

I'd like to think that 12" version with full-size reverb tank would be one of the best little amps ever made :)

Re: Got the next home recording amp....

looks solid! hopefully it has a nicer 10 inch speaker than my lead 12.

Re: Got the next home recording amp....

I just purchased a LANEY LH20 Head last night and I have finally found what I've been looking for in amps. This retains its character even at nearly "off" settings. What's wild is the reverb. OMG... the FIRST totally usable reverb I have found and I've been playing since the 70's. I mean you can go to 10 and it STILL sounds good. Whatever it is they did in that circuit is THE winner hands down. The rest of the amp just gets better.

I'm guessing you'll be finding the same awesome tones, build and satisfaction factor I found in my Laney. We were BOTH lucky to find our new and, in my case, final amp, to fill our needs.

Congratulations and never let it go!

Re: Got the next home recording amp....

So is the sound in that thing:D
Big....deep.....wide............and can go insanely loud...but clean...sounds nice at normal levels as well....so that is cool.

Re: Got the next home recording amp....

I had one of these for a couple of years. One word to describe its sound: sweet.

It's just a very nice 'sweet' overtone. I love EL84s. Doesn't sound half bad when not cranked as you've mentioned too.

I changed the speaker in mine and it REALLY improved it too... Look into a Ragin' Cajun or a RamRod and stand back... :)

Re: Got the next home recording amp....

I changed the speaker in mine and it REALLY improved it too.

I spent some time looking for replacement speaker, but could not find one with proper depth ( the cabinet is really low in space) and after a while I quitted.
Anyway, it's not like we have a whole lot of choice of speakers here, so I guess if you're somewhere in US it would not be that of a problem.

BTW, I found it interesting. You can plug your guitar into 'return' jack of the amp and play very nice tones (having only tone control working).
Then your friend can plug into the amp 'input' jack, and you two can jam together on one amp at bedroom level making sweet harmonies :)

Re: Got the next home recording amp....

Couldn't get that Mesa Boogie you were holding out for?

Kidding aside, it looks like a sweet amp, I hope you post some clips.

Re: Got the next home recording amp....

Laney's are my go to amp. Always. Whenever i'm done with a Vox, Fender, Marshall i always end up going back to Laneys. VC30 2x12 was my go to amp for years...before the lion hearts came out :)

Re: Got the next home recording amp....

Fortunally they both sound good in the room I use.
Use two rather natural sounding mics.
Now I can Use my stuff I have here at home.
Never have the time to use the companys studio.
What I like the most is the simpleness of the whole setup. The amp is as good as the first time I tried one.
Both works well with my pedals, so I am quite happy.
No more simulators thank-you! Heh
