1992 Starfield Cabriolet with Alder Body, Wilkinson WK10 USA Tremolo, originally SD Classic Strat Pickups but it was in parts with Fender Strat Singles when I found it.

Nice, what's that in the bridge position?

Not to mention the other two! I just realized that they're all Duncans.

Came with Fender Singles but I swapped out for SSL-1/SSL1/JB Jr. - pickups were a gift from girlfriend. Still gotta get it wired up and make a Cavity Cover for it. Basically an Ibanez Tele w/Wilkinson Trem.

Reminds me of a Godin a bit.
What's the story behind that brand? Never heard of it.

Re: Gotta love Pawn Shops - 1992 Starfield

Little bit. I can see that. Basically an Ibanez product think Honoso manufactured, Mike Lipe Design. Apparently Mike Lipe makes one of same body style. There were America L.A. Custom Shop Models but this one doesn't have the Made In America Stamp on the back of the Headstock and it's got a standard Ibanez "F" Serial Number Sticker.

Parent brand: IBANEZ

product types: electric guitars

Information: The Starfield brand was created by Hoshino Industries, the parent company of Ibanez guitars. The brand was first used for Gibson Les Paul copies in the 1970s to early 1980s.

Then in the late 1980s the brand was used for some higher end guitars. Both Ibanez and Starfield guitars were made in the same factories in Japan, some models were finished in the Ibanez custom facility in California. There were two basic models: the twin cutaway Altair and the single cutaway Cabriolet series.

The brand was not a commercial success and was withdrawn in 1994.

Starfields are great guitars. I have the 2HB Cabriolet Semi - bought it new in early nineties. It has a 59/custom in the bridge and 59 neck now - very, very cool.

Yeah; saw that in the one ad that comes up. I knew about the brand which was why I figure it was worth a C Note as a project being it was a complete guitar. Neck feels nice; thin and comfy like a 90's RG 550.

You stole that mate!

Then the GF gets you Duncan's!

Buy a lottery ticket, you're on a roll buddy

Re: Gotta love Pawn Shops - 1992 Starfield

Wow, killer deal on that Starfield!

And, yeah, the Lipe is pretty much straight copy of that body shape...crazy!

Re: Gotta love Pawn Shops - 1992 Starfield

I always liked this brand...are they still around?

Re: Gotta love Pawn Shops - 1992 Starfield

Much better wired up and with strings on it! All together and set up with Duncan SSL-1/SSL1/JB Jr. and New Volume & Tone Pots. Did some fine tuning on the set up afterwards to get the neck/strings aligned properly as well as adjusting the pickups heights to find the sweet spot in each position. Really like the singles through the JTM 50T and Blues Classic and the JB Jr. does a nice overwound humbucker tone. 25" Scale Neck is pretty thin, though not a wide as say a RG550 but very comfortable and playable all around. Wilkinson Trem is nice and smooth as well.

Really not much info to find on these. Tech who sat it up asked if the Black Finish was original as he stated the neck has some remnants of Metallic Silver Paint on it but he couldn't see any in the neck pocket of the body. Though Black wasn't listed as a color I've seen a couple black ones on the web searches, Made In USA Stamp on back of the headstock or Custom Shop Notation, as well as ones with both the Made In USA Stamp and the Ibanez Serial Number Tag. Rather confusing.
