Some RIffage

im still workin on my tone...this ne better? i just started messing with the graphic EQ...this thing is still kinda hard to tweek...i like the new Treadplate setting but i still gotta work with it the clip is w/ the Line 6 Insane setting.

Re: GP Tone...better?

meh.. dont worry about the line6 insane.. try the Spinal Puppet.. MUCH better. i think it's shaped after a tripple rec, but i'm not too sure.. GREAT for riffing, but it kinda gets lost in the mix now and again

the sound works GREAT for trash and death type metal.. you're starting to make the proper tweaks =) (just remember, less is more sometimes.) try to roll off the trebble a tiny bit

the harshness you're hearing ATM, wont be there at all once you add some drums and cymbals

The tones alright but it's got a bit of farty fizz to it. I agree with davey about the spinal puppet model for the tone you're going for, it's a lot tighter. I use it sometimes with a tubescreamer for some insanely gained rhythm sounds. IMO, it's more insane than the insane setting ;)

Re: GP Tone...better?

i recorded a new riff thing w/ my new setting, it's better and right now i really like it, i will post it when i get a chance...im using the Line 6 Treadplate...im really likin' this one but i will deff try the spinal puppet w/ the screamer and the eq

Re: GP Tone...better?

well, my main amps are the line6 treadplate and the soldano. both use the line 6 4x12 cab and a tube screamer.. the rest varies. for now, i hit the treadplate with pretty much every effect apart of the wah, so it's pretty compressed, gritty and well.. it's the metal tone, cuts through every mix.

i got the soldano set up pretty easy. i dont know if it has anything else. will have to check some other time. it's got a great mid 80's type of tone.

this sound is better than the previous one.
word of advice.. when you're doing the presets. start off with the volume at full and an even EQ, then add gain etc etc etc. the tones are better with the amp volume rolled UP. if you think some sounds are too fuzzy or something, just try changing the mic from the s57 to a condenser. it'll bring out the low mids a little more and compress it a tiny bit

Re: GP Tone...better?

Yea i use the soldano model for my distorted tones, sounds way better than any of them to me. I just use the tubescreamer and set the distortion all the way down and use either a small amount of gain for thicker distortion from the amp, or alot of gain (50 or so) and less from the amp to get a jcm800 type sound. I always use the v30s and the 57. You guys want to post some specifics on your tones? im always looking for different tones that sound good.

Re: GP Tone...better?

i'll post some specs of my sounds once i get the thing back.. i'll do a lil soundclip and post the specs .. apart of two.. those are my secrets :D

I liked the old one BETTER

Yeah!, me too!! The new one sounds more standard, the first had and edgy, raw tone that had a lot of power!!

Anyway great playing in both of them!!!

Re: GP Tone...better?

thanks guys, if i get a chance i will post my latest clip with a new amp setting, i tried the screamer w/ the solo 100 head and the brit celest 75, compresser and eq w/ the condenser mic...so once again i am satisfied, but still playin around with this thing

Re: GP Tone...better?

damn dude! the intro is trippy as hell, and i really dig the part after it too. good stuff

Re: GP Tone...better?

i can see this developing into a very cool song. d!ckinson-esque vocals and all.. very nice

Re: GP Tone...better?

thanks guys, i really like some of the stuff goin on in this song so hopefully it will grow into a cool song

Re: GP Tone...better?

Alright i recorded a small riff just to show you guys my fav tone at the moment. It sounds alot like a marshall, even though ive never "really" played one.

http://webpages.acs.ttu.edu/wdenman/hsd.mp3

I used:
Soldano 100 head
drive-just over 5 bass-9 mid-just over 1 treble-just over 7 presence-just over 7 volume-6.5
V30s
57 on axis @42
tubescreamer at 22 49 60
I used all 4 eq deals, the top is 2.4@170hz -1.2@800 -2.4@550 2.6@950 on the bottom
compression -19 and 4
little reverb as well from the spring reverb- 61 49 40
