Which one would you choose, and why?

- TUSQ
- Trem-Nut, which is self-lubricating.

I'm looking to for a Graph-tech nut, wanted to know which type was better.

Thanks
Bee

Re: Graph-tech nuts: TUSQ vs Trem-Nut

I'd go with TUSQ on a Tele or other non trem guitar, but definately a Trem nut if I planned on using the trem. Couple that with a properly set up trem and some locking tuners, and you'll eliminate most tuning problems.

Re: Graph-tech nuts: TUSQ vs Trem-Nut

I have a vintage trem but I never use it. The Pacificas trem has never been that good at being stable anyway.

However, I do like the sound of the self-lubricating nut.

Re: Graph-tech nuts: TUSQ vs Trem-Nut

You can make it stable. I got my younger bro's to work very well. ;)

Re: Graph-tech nuts: TUSQ vs Trem-Nut

Sounds appetising. Thanks for the input :)

Oh and by the way...

1) How does the trem-nut keep lubricating itself ( ??!?! )

2) Can you buy tremolo arms anywhere? I lost mine :p

Re: Graph-tech nuts: TUSQ vs Trem-Nut

You should be able to find trem arms at any decently stocked shop, just make sure that the threading is the same as the one in your block and you'll be OK.

The nut will keep lubricating itself as long as it's there. It will wear out, but I think it'll take a lonjg time for that to happen.

Re: Graph-tech nuts: TUSQ vs Trem-Nut

I use both as mainstays of my work. TUSQ on non trem axes and Trem-Nuts on trem axes or where Black looks better. I coudn´t choose between the 2, sorry. ;)

Re: Graph-tech nuts: TUSQ vs Trem-Nut

I guess they were just made to serve their own different purposes :p

It seems as if there's a reason to choose TUSQ over a Trem-nut where the tremolo doesn't apply. Does it give a better tone or does the TUSQ conflict where a tremolo is present?

Thanks for the advice Benji, Zerb.

Re: Graph-tech nuts: TUSQ vs Trem-Nut

Most people like the sound of a bone nut, which Tusq is made to emulate. It conflicts in no way with the trem, and when cut properly, works very well with trem systems, but the Trem nut does work a bit better over time than the Tusq (or bone) when using the trem system heavily. Also, the Trem Nut sounds a bit warmer (to me, at least) than either the Tusq or a real bone unit.

Re: Graph-tech nuts: TUSQ vs Trem-Nut

I'm a big fan of Earvana nuts. The material is similar to graphite in terms of tone and slipperyness, with the added benefit that it improves your intonation. They can also be installed by yourself.
