Some of my nuts are made with hard bone.

Working them does create some smell and takes time.

PS: We are describing Guitar nuts and Ox bone, nothing else!

PPPSS: Nut material only matter when playing open strings!

That's why I find using the TusqXL string saddles to be of even greater importance.

I tried their saddles, but several of them ended up breaking. Since I don't need them to keep strings from breaking, I never have broken strings (I set up, file, and polish all of my saddles), I don't find any tone advantage worth the inconvenience of broken saddles.

And since I make all of my own nuts from bone (my own compensated design), I have no use for their nuts either.

So...

Give me bone nuts and steel or brass saddles. I'll leave the rest of the crap for you guys to buy.

I always recommend a new nut over pickup upgrades if a guitar has a poorly cut one, as many guitars do. People always blame their tuners for tuning problems but IME it's almost always a poorly cut nut causing the issues. And yeah I like Tusqs, too.

Assuming it's properly cut and set, and it's the right size, you can't go wrong with a TUSQ nut. I just figured out that I bought the wrong model for my PRS and am in the process of fixing the problem.
