Graphics on guitars

I think some graphics look very tacky but the right ones can look cool.

The problem I have is that I always get bored of a picture. At first, it looks amazing but as your brain gets used to seeing it, you no longer see that initial 'coolness'. It loses some its magical quality.

So I imagine if I had a guitar with a graphic on it, it would start to look a bit 'old' in my eyes.

Yay or nay?

Re: Graphics on guitars

I usually think full-body graphics are gaudy but I'd probably get a 5" by 5" graphic on a custom guitar.

Re: Graphics on guitars

i like some graphics. i like hot rod flames a lot and have 2 guitars with flames on them now and 1 more on order with charvel. i also have my bullseye charvel which i like since it's just simple rings. then i have another Clone being painted now with a cool/simple graphic i designed. that you'll all have to wait and see haha.

I also don't consider bevel-colouring to be a "graphic," they're just badass, lol.

Re: Graphics on guitars

Errrr.....They can either look really cool or really really retarded. Sadly they usually fall into the later category. For me the problem with them is that usually (for whatever reason) when I see a graphics guitar I instantaneously think "I don't want a plastic guitar!" They just tend to look fake and low quality. But beauty is in the eye of the guit-holder.

Re: Graphics on guitars

One graphic that always looks better in a photo than in person is any of the airplane graphics - you know, the ones that look like the side of an airplane with all the bolts and rivets and such. I just hate pictures of bolts with pictures of shadows. Now if they had real bolt heads on them, that would be cool!

But some of those graphics, I really like.

Re: Graphics on guitars

I think graphics on a guitar must appeal to a guitarists' senses- and not be 'just a graphic'- otherwise, you could get bored with it.

I call my DKMG's 'graphic', euphoria, because to me, that's where it takes me. Like it reminds me of the big blue sky or the surf... and I hate large bodies of water, but it feels of freedom. So, to me it is more than a graphic... as soon as I laid my eyes on the paintjob, it was love at first sight. Today I still pose in front of a mirror and smile like God especially painted it and gave it to ME... not that I'm special or anything.

But, I guess you have to feel it along with the axe being at least, one of your favorite axes. I'm mean, it's like art... sometimes you're in phase when you 'admire' your newfound art, then time passes and so do your tastes. Also, there may be that one piece that just will stick with you- that you feel a connection with and is irreplacable.

So, yay or nay, indeed.

Re: Graphics on guitars

I've very picky about graphics. I can go one way or the other. My first graphic guitar will arrive late summer.

BTW Zerb... is that a one off green jackson or is that an LTD run? I totally dig it!

Re: Graphics on guitars

I like solid color guitars.... I just add a little bit of flash with a cool strap.
i'm not sure how i feel about quilt or flame tops either...

Re: Graphics on guitars

I always thought the Picasso graphic on the Ibanez Petrucci sig model was pretty sweet, but I'm not usually a graphic person.

Neither, It´s an Idea I´ve been kicking around for about a year now ;)

Re: Graphics on guitars

I prefer the "color" of natural finishes, so that you can see the wood grain
of the guitar's body, but I can appreciate some of the cool graphic designs
I've seen. One thing about using wild graphics or pointy/angular shapes is
that it suggests that you'll be playing it for only one particular style of
music (typically metal)--and if you're not, it seems kind of out of place in
some situations!

I like this one, though:

Some graphics are pretty boring but I'll never get sick this one.
