Guys does anyone know if there's a difference in tone between the original Graphtech saddles and the new stainless steel ones with just an insert of graphite ?

It seems to me that the steel ones wouldn't have the same sustain due to a mis-match of contact surface and materials with the insert.

I hope I'm wrong, but would like opinions before I spend my money.

many thanks

Re: Graphtech saddles

there's a substantial price difference between the two. the normal graph techs are affordable- the ferraglides you're talking about cost waaay more. I cant imagine there's much tonal difference between them to be quite honest.

Re: Graphtech saddles

I just suspect that the insert would have an adverse effect on the sustain as opposed to the entire saddle being made from the material... the cost isn't the issue. Tone and sustain is !!!

Re: Graphtech saddles

I haven't compared the 2, but I have the FerraGlides on one of my guitars. Before these, I had Fender stamped stainless steel saddles. I can't tell any difference in sustain, but the FerraGlides seem to sound brighter. I'm not so sure the cost is warranted, but I like having them.

Re: Graphtech saddles

Not having anything to do with comparing...

I got a set of Graph Tech saddles because I had string breaking problems. Most of it had to do with a heavy hand.

The Graph Tech saddles GREATLY reduced my string breakage, and an incredible unintended benefit was that the guitars stayed in tune longer. I always thought you HAD to tune between every song.

I switched over all of my guitars to String Saver Saddles. I say they're the best $30 I've spent on gear.

It sounds like a frickin' commercial- but it's the truth. I've said the same thing for almost 10 years now.

Although it's been a while, I do remember that the Graph Tech saddles were actually brighter than the stock saddles on my Tele.

If you have questions- call them. They helped me out.

If you're going to order, order through someone else like Stew Mac- it's less expensive than ordering directly from them.

***Shamless plug***

I'm a GraphTech dealer in Canada and I'd be happy to ship to the UK if you need anything.

As for your question, I don't use them as most of my guitars are Floyds, but the Ferraglides certainly look nicer.

Edit: I did use a set for a while. They were more comfortable on the hand than what they replaced...
