Bruce is in Commerce City...about 1/2 an hour from Boulder. I'm about 1/2 an hour up the hill from Boulder in the mountains west of Boulder. But Bruce is the other way: east and close to Denver. It would be great to see you Jeremy and I'm sure Bruce would love to meet you too. Be sure and stop by. I'll PM you some phone numbers.

Re: Great new amp...

Well, Lew wouldn't answer me  so I went to the source:

Well, funny you should ask about the head version.

We have talked about doing a head and 1x12 or 2x12 bottom version but we already had all the first "limited" run of 1x12 Aurora combo cabinets made and delivered a couple months ago.

Those would be the standard non reverb version, the reverb version and the mini +15 watt version (about the size of a tweed Deluxe).

Cabinets are so expensive right now that a run of 25-50 cabinets can really put a dent in the cash flow of a small business like mine. So I have to wait for a while before we go for a head/bottom layout.

Yeah, the writers from VG heard the amp at the Dallas show and have been calling me every week wanting to do a new product release and review for us... etc etc...

I've told them I'll send one out asap for the last three weeks! ha ha ha

I let Lew have the final "beta test" reverb amp the other day so he can wring it out and try to blow it up for me!

I like this amp the best and will make all of them that way... plus or minus some of Lew's suggestions... I have to be careful there as Lew is a SERIOUS nit picker.

Sounds pretty nice.....can't wait to hear more.

Lew, are you set up for some clips ????

Re: Great new amp...

hey lew - does the aurora have to be LOUD to give up the tonal goods, or does it get happenin' without having to rattle the rockies? :D

Re: Great new amp...

Hi Terry, I haven't been online much the last couple of days so I wasn't ignoring you. (laugh!) So according to Bruce, I'm a serious nit picker, huh? Yep...I am. (As the regulars here have probably noticed!)

My band is going to start gigging regularly now and we have a Tuesday night sit down gig at a place on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder called Baccaros. It's a really nice place with an outdoor bar that faces the Mall. We'll be filming and recording our gigs there and I hope to get some nice recordings of Bruce's new amp. We don't play very loud though, so it'll be hard to crank it up. I'll do my best though to get something recorded.

At 30 watts, it gets pretty loud when the master is on 10 and I crank the preamp up passed 5. Not as loud as a Super Reverb, Pro Reverb or AC-30 but louder than my blackface Deluxe amps.

The Mission Aurora has a well designed master volume control and one of Bruce's favorite tones is with the master on 4 and the preamp on 7 or higher.

It gives a nice overdriven tone for blues and rock even with single coils like I use. It's not a super saturated molten rock tone though...it's more bluesy rock: like the tone Clapton or Billy Gibbons or Los Lobos might go for.

And like I said at the beginning, pinch harmonics take off so easily it's really fun to play!

:D I was kidding, of course.....but yeah man, that would be cool if you could tape that stuff. I guess YouTube would be a good place to host it :bigok:

Oh, and I told him nothing wrong with nit picking when you're trying to "sell the sizzle"

You guys stop it!!! Bruce has been talking this amp up for a while to me now and I still haven't even tried one! I really do think this will be my next amp to add to the stack! I like the features and I trust Lew's ears not to mention I know for a fact that Bruce builds one of the best amps money can buy!

Well...I've been playing this thing for over a week now and there is nothing I don't love about it. Best 30 watt amp I've ever played. And such a warm, full, articulate tone! Love the growl and textured bark to the mids.

Quite a differant tone than my blackface Fenders and Marshall 50 watt but easier on the ears...not so ice picky at high volumes.

The only suggestion I had for Bruce have to do with the reverb. It sounds great but as I mentioned, it's not as splashy as blackface Fender reverb which is what I'm used to hearing. But Bruce says that because the amp is a cathode follower design (like a tweed Bassman, plexi Marshall or Vox AC-30, and those amps do not have spring reverb) the reverb circuit is inserted in the Mission Aurora at a differant point in the circuit than it would be if it was a blackface Fender. This gives the reverb a slightly differant tone then Fender reverb...not better or worse: just differant.

I'd love to hear a 20 watt two 6V6 tube version now...the Aurora "DR" if you will!

Re: Great new amp...

Thanks for the continued GAS, Lew. :D Man, I cannot wait to get a hold of one of those beasts. I'll gladly help in testing them. :)

Ask Bruce for your own sig model. "DLR" = "Double Lew Reverb". LOL.

Re: Great new amp...

Thats the MSRP on the Rivera I have now! I didnt pay near that used but their dealers charge full price I believe. So thats not too bad.

I've been a longtime Rivera freak, which one do you have / like ? ( Mind if I confiscate this thread ? I'll get right back to you Lew ). Currently, I have a 40W Clubster, and an M60 head, but have owned others.

Lew, I'm interested in King Amplifications amps, which run in a similiar class, but I'm guessing may be be way overboard on the price tag. He does a lot of reapair, and mods for me. I'll see if I can jam on one next time I'm down there.

Your review sounds very promising.

Re: Great new amp...

Does he have any in stock?

No. I have the final prototype and the amp is going into production after this beta testing. Bruce does have the cabinets, blank chassis, trannys, speakers, etc. in stock and could put one together pretty quick. Mission Amps is 100% Bruce's company, BTW. I don't have any financial connections with it at all. I just get to test new stuff and give suggestions and demo things for Bruce now and then at guitar shows and the like.
