green wax on Dimarzio ?

Re: green wax on Dimarzio ?

Wait a minute, I just had a thought. If there's that green wax stuff in there, would that make it a "boogerbucker"? :laugh2:

Re: green wax on Dimarzio ?

So unless the SM used a narrower magnet than every other humbucker Dimarzio made, it wouldn't be an airbucker by design.

comparing the ceramic magnet SM has with SD Distortion Trembucker,..

the Trembucker is 0.5 mm wider and 3 mm longer.

sorry i dont have other PU's magnet to compare :)

Re: green wax on Dimarzio ?

.5mm width isn't enough to make a difference. It's maybe the reason your poles don't directly touch the magnet all the way across, but not anything to worry about when reassembling the pickup. The PATB is likely 3mm longer simply for the trem spacing, and to stretch all the way to the outside of the rectangular poles.

Erik I've never seen a booger like that. You may want to see an otolaryngologist. I'd say maybe a Shrekbucker.

In the 1994 Ibanez catalog, the Gambale's came loaded with a "Fred Lite" and "PAF Pro Lite" described as a "new low magnetic field version" of the two. (Interestingly they put the Fred Lite in the neck and the PAF Pro Lite in the bridge) That's likely the inception of the Airbucker, so you had to have them developed and shipping in late 1993 for those production models. But still nowhere near the Steve Morse model inception.

Re: green wax on Dimarzio ?

it's where the potting wax has picked up green from the brass baseplate. . It has "brass turned green" coloration on all the parts where wax has built up.

you're rite , Frank

here's on the red circle showing the green wax shows at the bottom of baseplate.

A Shrekbucker? What a great idea. With a nice snot green colored bobbin, it'll be perfect....LOL. Matches up with a Donkeybucker in the neck. :D

Re: green wax on Dimarzio ? Yes!

Re: green wax on Dimarzio ? Yes!

Its wax with an added green pigment they started using in the last year or so. Its green for one of two reasons; So they can tell if the pickup has been altered by additional unauthorized potting which would void the warranty(unless you use a green candle/parafin mixed wth beeswax?) ) Or,because
thats what they currently have on hand for potting pickups and they're using it up? eb

Re: green wax on Dimarzio ?

You MUST tell us what pickups/electronics/switching systems are in that thing dude.....it looks crazy

Re: green wax on Dimarzio ?

it was my old switching system that i put on '83 Bullet. i only have that guitar, but my playing ranging from rock distorted to clean country pickin'. That made me use 4 different type of PUs to cover everything.
and i also a recording session player. so i put piezo preamp.

in magnetic PU, i divided 2 parts : the high output PU's ( Dimarzio SM and PATB2 ) which use 5 way superswitch for the switching. and the vintage output ( SD APS 2 and STK -T3B ) using regular 3 way toggle. i also wired a 6 way varitone.

but now so much change, i made a mid boost circuit, and the switching's far more complex . Combination of series ,parallel, OOP, for electromagnetic quartet. :13: not forget to mention adding MIDI preamp. but sorry i dont have pics for now. i guess u can say, this guitar is supermarket of tone :laugh2:

at least this is works for me.

and the good news,... now i've been seymourized !! a '59 will soon replace the DP Steve morse :D

here's some old pics ..
