Greenback G12M speakers

Hey guys, I have a question. I have a Marshall jtm 45 head and 2 cabs, one has 2 vintage 30's in it, the other has 4 G12M greenbacks. I like the greenbacks better, but my ears are killing me when I get off stage, even if I wear earplugs. So I was thinking of putting 2 of the G12M's in my other cab and pulling out the V30's, but I heard someone say once that greenbacks only sound great when there are 4 of them. Is this true or not? I really don't want to be switching speakers, and wasting my time doing so if the result won't be good.

Re: Greenback G12M speakers

I use one greenback and it's killer. If I could afford a 2nd cab with a greenback right now I'd do it in a heartbeat. I can't see where there'd be a problem.

Re: Greenback G12M speakers

Greenbacks sound fine in pairs or even just one...they just lack lows to some guys and a 4x12 cab halps make up for that.

FWIW, the 'magic" Matchless speaker combo is a greenback and a v30...

Re: Greenback G12M speakers

If your ears are killing you when you get off stage- it isn't because of the Greenbacks themselves.

Re: Greenback G12M speakers

two greenbacks with a jtm45 should sound sweet and wont be as loud as the v30s

I'd leave 4 GB's!

Stay away from the cymbals and/or use some earprotection - plugs, small headphones...I use a smal peace of a parper napkin because I like tha way it lowers the noise and almost preservs the tone of the guitar I hear without ear protection...ear plugs are much more effiicient, though

If your ears are hurting with earplugs....... try turning down the volume. A speaker change is not going to help you!

Re: Greenback G12M speakers

Imagine how the crowd feels, if your ears hurt even when you use earplugs....
Seriously - if you love music, do you really want to make yourself deaf? Industrial deafness is very real and damaged receptors in your ears do not grow back.
