Greetings all... Thus begins my SD journey

Re: Greetings all... Thus begins my SD journey

This is after reading the rest of the thread....
So yeah in general I was disappointed in the sound.
Looking into a crystal ball i can see that the longer you have this guitar, the stronger you will yearn for an axe that is more satisfying.
Forget upgrades. Save for an axe that you really enjoy playing. ONe that puts a smile on your face every time you pick it up, or play a chord.
A good instrument is one that makes you feel good when you play it. Life is too short.

If you are going to rock it, A 59 and 59/custom Hybrid might be excellent.

OR whole Lotta and a 59/Custom.

Talking to a guy who has an Epi with a Jb….

^^
I can only imagine what a 335 would sound like with a BW set. Ungodly... Put in some push pulls to split them...

Re: Greetings all... Thus begins my SD journey

Thanks for the feedback all. Based on it and what I know of the guitar (brighter than I like, looking for a fuller/warmer sound with more mids and lows) these are the what I'm looking at:

Neck: 59, WLH, Alnico II Pro

Bridge: 59/Custom Hybrid, WLH, JB, or... the Brobucker? (Any opinions on the Brobucker with my setup)

I want to run coil splitting on both pickup. Do any of these pickups excel versus the others with that? Thanks again.

The BroBucker is a fantastic pickup. I have one in my Les Paul Traditional, and the other guitarist in my band dug it so much he put one in his SG Standard.

The BB is similar to the 59/Custom in terms of output, but it's a little more vintage-y in voicing. There's some midrange happening but it's more of a higher midrange than the 59/Custom.

I admit I haven't tried either pickup in a coil-splitting situation, so I can't speak to their performance on that, though I do have a close friend who recently put a 59/Custom in a PRS with an RS wiring kit, and he has told me he's pretty pleased with the split sounds.

EDIT: D'OH! Why didn't I think of this sooner?

I have a guitar that's on the brighter side myself, that has a bridge humbucker, and I sorted that out by putting a covered S-DECO 8 in it. It's a little hotter and darker than the BroBucker, but it's still a traditionally-voiced pickup, and it added the chunk back into a guitar I was convinced would never have it.
