Does anyon here, play a Gretsch Duo Jet?

I've thought about trying one out, I've never played one before. The one I'm looking at is a 1994 Gretsch Duo Jet 6128TDS with Dynasonic pickps and a Bigsby. It another possible trade that I've been offered on my 6120

Any thoughts?

Re: Gretsch Duo Jet 6128TDS?

I had a powerjet, which is essentially a Duo with higher output pickups. Mine had a Bigsby. It was a great guitar.

The way I explain it to most people, is that it was a great guitar, but it wasn't something I could see myself playing often enough to justify keeping it. The tone was so distinct, I either wanted it to become my main sound, or I was almost using the entire guitar as an effect on 1 or 2 songs.

If you think the Gretsch sound is your thing, it could be a changing moment in your playing. I know more and more people are rediscovering Gretsch and what kind of tones they can bring for more modern styles of music, while still sounding old school. The only way to find out is to own one though.

Yeah, thats kind of where I am at with the 6120 that I have now. Its a great guitar and it sounds really good, but I always play LPs and Teles as my main guitars. I wouldn't mind trying out a Duo Jet, because it is kind of the other end of the spectrum of, compared to the Gretsch that I have now (Hollowbody w/Filtertrons vs Solidbody w/Dynasonics). But I don't know if I should just stick with what I know and get another LP. It sucks not being able to try out the guitars first.

Astrozombie once tried one at a branch of Brokeback Guitars. :D

I have a 6129 Duo Jet Dual Cutaway that I put Powertron pickups in, essentially making it a Powerjet. Even with the stock filtertrons it covers a lot of ground.

It could be my main guitar and does the rock stuff easily as well as roots. You may dig the Dynasonics but I've never played them so I can't comment on them.

It's not a full hollow body but is heavily chambered with no f holes.

I've tried several, I like them all. I am undecided on whether I love the bigsby on this particular kind of guitar, but it's a nice guitar nonetheless.
