Grizzly Guitars

www.grizzly.com. Search Guitar. This brings up the kits. Guitars brings up parts, etc.

I emailed them and they're willing to sell just bodies and necks, or other separate parts. Waiting to hear from them again, re the body and neck I want.

Anybody have any experience with these guitars? I'm thinking it would be a fun project that includes painting the thing.

Humbuckers of some sort, a locking Floyd Rose tremelo, hot pots, would be perfect. I need to price the components against the kit price.

Grizzly's owner is a big guitar fan.

Re: Grizzly Guitars

never heard of Grizzly so I checked out thier site. A complete guitar for $365. Well, where to start. Let me begin by saying that I am not trying to sway you in any direction, if you dig it, then it's great. but if you look at the price of good quality components ie, tuners $70, pups $75 ea, trem $100, accesories $50, excelent quality neck $275, body $300. A veneer top will only impart a tone if it's at least 3/8 " thick. one has to ask him/her self about the quality of components and most importantly where it's made. If they are selling something for $365 and want to stay in business a markup of at least 30 percent must be imparted. so it's possible that the components that make up the kit actually cost around $280 - $230. also where is this made? it is so important these days that the people that are manufactureing any product be paid a fair wage for a days work. it's important that we know where things come from and that people are being treated fairly. i'm begining to sound like a wet blanket but it is important. check out warmoth guitar parts, and there are others that i know are made in the u.s. yea they are more expensive but the quality a 10. i've gone through a lot of cheep guitars in my time, buy and sell, buy and sell and what's left is a few quality guitars that i'm proud to own. JET Earlwood #159, Warmoth Strat, (and 3 hand made by me, $700 ea). but if you dig it, it's great. good playing. T

Re: Grizzly Guitars

NO, I wasn't planning on buying their kit, just the body and neck, maybe pickguard. Then, I go wild.

However, I did mention I would compare prices. They do offer a Floyd rose Tremelo with the kit. But,

However, I want SD pups, I want to paint the thing myself, I'll buy my own Tremelo, all that.

Grizzly makes great woodworking equipment, by the way. They have a reputation that's respected in the woodworking community.

The work on the bodies looks second to none. My intent of this thread is to find the best place to buy a body and neck, with all the routing done.

I'm not into any of this for the chance to make a buck on selling a finished product. I'm becoming addicted to guitars. Almost done winding up a Flying V project.

Re: Grizzly Guitars

sorry, i didn't mean to dis your possible new git, it's just that i'd like to see everyone own a nice guitar. I just gave a custom tele body to a kid on this site. T

Re: Grizzly Guitars

I have seen these kits and I am wondering about just buying all of the goods from different places to just build a Fender Strat or Tele that I can call my own! Have you thought about doing something like that? I still think that it would be expensive to piece one together than to just purchase one but it is nice to say that you put it together and chose the parts all the way through.

Re: Grizzly Guitars

I have no idea about the guitar kits, but Grizzly makes great shop tools for the money.

the tools are great and i was a little confused when they started selling guitar stuff but i guess it has to do with the owner got into building.

never tried the kits but i might shy away

Re: Grizzly Guitars

Does anyone offer a nice set neck Les Paul kit? I would love to get a project like that.

Re: Grizzly Guitars

Ya, basically I'm interested in doing all the work I can. I'm not interested in buying a product already done.

Any other suppliers of bodies and necks that any of you have experience with?

Re: Grizzly Guitars

LOL, they just emailed with a price for neck and body. $368 total, body on backorder for 6-8 weeks. $30 more gets the whole kit.

I'm in need of a body and neck supplier.

Re: Grizzly Guitars

Booked. Dinkie S, hmmmm. Wow, a bit spendy, and I'm looking at factory seconds on sale.

Thanks for the info. They're still bookmarked.

Edited to Add - Priced other bodies else, and hmmm, custom built looking good. Thanks mrfjones.

Re: Grizzly Guitars

Kiobe -

Spent my High School and some later years in Damascus.

I'm currently in the Kerns Neighborhood, which is close to Laurelhurst and Hollywood areas of NE PDX.

I built myself up a shop over the past 1.5 years for the purposes of woodworking and some welding. Need much routing practice.

Perhaps you could come down a visit some day, talk guitars and woodworking, and sample a pint of my homebrew. Currently, I have a keg of light IPA and a keg of Black Butte Porter clone out in the fridge. Going to keg up another IPA (new recipe) today.

Might be worth a trip up to Puyallup. I was stationed at Ft Lewis (74-77). We hung out in Puyallup.

Re: Grizzly Guitars

ah homebrew. i can't tell you how much money i've droped at steinbarts. i brewed for like 10 years and loved it, the science and all, but the 4 hour cleaning finally got to me. i sold my rig, rather gave my rig away a few years back and ran into the guy the other day at 11th and division and he is using the heck out of it. ipa is one of my favs. what do you do in your shop.

Re: Grizzly Guitars

Wow, small world. I'm buying grain at Steinbarts by the 55# bag now. Next year, I'll go stainless steel conical 14 gallcn fermenter.

Well, I built a couple cabinets, keep up the place and want to get into building furniture.

I might be ready to take on a routing job on a guitar body blank by the end of the Summer. Need to skill build in building jigs, other tricks and general practice. I do have a routing table.

This week, I'm going to buy some light steel and weld on fencing (lack of better word) around this flat, grid-like steel thing I have. It's perfect to adapt into a cargo carrier for the top of my van. That way I can put gas cans, the cooking/food box, cooler, backpack, fishing poles, etc on top and keep the inside free for my mattress, bedding, acoustic guitar.

Ya, the cleaning sucks, but there are better chemicals and cleaners now, and the taste of superior brew is well worth all the bother. Sometimes, I don't feel like doing it though, like any other chore.

Re: Grizzly Guitars

55 lbs! sheesh. so you brew pretty often? conicle stainless fermenter, just saying that makes my mouth water. i'm such an industrial geek, i could live in the mezanine level of fujitsu, pipes, pumps, motors etc...

Re: Grizzly Guitars

LOL. I tend to go ape****s with all my hobbies. I try and buy the best tools that will last me forever, hopefully.

Anyway, I've been searching eBAY for guitar bodies.

Yesterday, I was on official business and had to drive right on by Puyallup, WA. Wish I could have stopped on in to see Warmoth or the other company.
