Groove Tubes Fat Finger. Worth It?

Hey guys....
In my seemingly endless (selfish) pursuit of fat tone, I'm known to try just about any little gizmo and gaget that'll help.

Have any of you tried the GrooveTubes Fat finger.
They say it's supposed to eliminate dead spots and increase sustain on fender-style guitars and basses.

I've never had a chance to try one.
Have you?
What do yo think?
Is it worth it?
 
They may work, but I always thought they were ugly and could possibly leave a marr on the headstock. It strikes me as some guy's "get rich quick scheme." The only way to get great tone
is to have a nice guitar, Duncan pickups, and a high quality tube amp. Everything else is a shortcut that doesn't yield the same result IMO.

Even if they are shortcuts, I think theyre a pretty good option for somebody,(like me) that doesnt have a lot of money.
 
I could be wrong but I dont think somthing like a GT Fat Finger is gonna make a low priced guitar sound like a high priced. I agree with Stratman.. save your money. Buy your self a good guitar where none of that stuff is needed. Put a real good pair of pickups like Duncans, and be happy.

Other wise, I wouldnt mess with any of that stuff.

imho, the fatfinger is great, and it WORKS.

Whether or not a little more sustain is worth an extra $20 is up to you to decide. For me, it was well worth it, the sustain WAS increased slightly. Not enough to do backflips about, but it was noticeable to the player.
 
Personally, i'd try strings, and other cheap, expendable options out first if you don't like strings/picks stuff like that, don't buy 'em again - I'm always skeptical about stuff like that.

I remember back in the late 80's I used to tape a couple of quarters to the back of the tuning pegs. Made the headstock heavier, with a noticable neck dive situation, but maybe a placebo effect or not, it appeared to give more sustain. In a recorded A/B situ, probably not as noticeable, but while playing you could tell.

I have one on one of my Tele's. The effect isn't dramatic but it does work. Don't expect any miracles.

I like the Groove Tubes FatHead, but they stopped making them. I put one on my Les Paul Custom back in 1988, and it turned into one powerfully loud guitar with sustain 'til Tuesday. I wish I had one of these for my Special too.

Why not just buy heavier (locking) tuners?

My personal experience is that anything Groove Tubes sells is over hyped, overpriced and generally a rip-off. GT-12AX7-M anyone?
