Groove Tubes GT-6L6-CHP. This tube is HOT.

Well, to make a long story longer, I owed a friend a cut from an electric bass he sold for me to a third party. He graciously refused a cut of the sale, so I have had this long-term debt I owed him. He has a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, and went to GC...but all they had were a quartet set of these GT-6L6-CHP tubes. He only needed two, so I bought the other two....

Anyhow, these tubes are loud and proud! There is little doubt this tube is not for Blues or Jazz. These tubes have gobs of "prescence", with a tight bottom. The sweetness I knew in the middle of the fretboard on the upper strings was replaced by forward thrust. The tubes I had in previously were Chinese manufactured 6L6's under the MESA/Boogie # STR-440. These tubes were less than two months old, from the MESA yellow-group, and are currently the tube Mesa ships in Rectos and other models.

I do not like the GT's 100%!!!!!! I had to pull a Tungsol 12AX7 in V1, and put in a JJ ECC83-S to mellow the buzz-saw...but I just wanted to let you guys know that this might be just the tube to add more Metal-Crunch (ala Headbanger's) to an amp that just comes up a bit short in the "modern" sound.

Need to add...the GT's were rated #7 on the GT hardness scale. This tube might sound like total @ss in an already "modern" Recto, but as always, it is up to the player to decide.

I really need to experiment with 6L6's some more. I had a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, and I disliked the drive channel so much that I've stayed far, far away from 6L6's.

These sound like cool tubes for sure. Thanks for posting.

That's not the 6L6s fault--it's a typical Fender amp. They have no clue on how to design a decent distortion channel.
